First off I must say WHERE'D YOU GET IT ? SELL IT TO ME CAUSE I WANT IT,PLEASE??
Only 2nd one I have ever seen, its from the Fender contempory series from Japan and I believe its from the 82-88 time frame(model I am sure, the serial number will tell the year) Fender Japan was flooding our market with their imports but some were NOT designed to be exported to the US,They were ment for the Japanese market ONLY but many slipped through especially with the recent price hike on anything brand new privete sellers are sending them over and making a small fortune.
So you have a mid eighties Japanese contempory bass, the model name AND serial number will be on the headstock if you post a pic of the headstock(close-up) we will gladly tell you more, now tell us,where'd ya get it,and how much was it ?Please :D if its personal its cool but I am curious to its pricing,Also you have a great bass there and if its functioning properly its quite valuable due to its rarity,I am a big fan of Japanese made Fenders and this is only the 2nd time I have seen one and that was waaaaaay back in 2001 or 2002,you lucked out nicely

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your ownership of a rarity. This piece of Fender Japan history was produced during the Fender USA Dark Age between the CBS Fullerton era and FMIC Corona era when there was no USA mass production.

I've never seen one of these in person! I have only heard about them, seen photos or read about them online. They supposedly were only sold within Japan as a custom order and the few that were produced were said to have been ordered professional players in Japan. They were not mass produced like the models going to the USA. The giveaway to the custom order is the angled twin pair of P-Bass pickups, the phase switch and the TBX tone circuit.

Very few have found their way out of Japan and into the secondary market. Maybe as few as the four that I've heard about and that is counting yours among the four. One in very good to excellent condition with normal signs of wear recently sold for around $1,050 USD and I think that was too little based on the scarcity. That one popped up in Australia and I have only heard of two others before I viewed your photos. So that makes a total of four. There maybe more of course but those four are the only ones I know about as of now. Even mass produced E series Japanese Fenders in excellent condition are bringing almost that much money these days, so this very rare bass should be worth at least 30 to 50% more than the mass produced E series basses in similar condition.

There is no telling how many more are still in Japan but very few of them are around the West for sure.

Correcting this sentence in second paragraph of my previous post:
They supposedly were only sold within Japan as a custom order and the few that were produced were said to have been ordered by professional players in Japan.

AHH Fuji Gen Ghacki son ! The infamous Tokai,Ibanez,Aria(need I name more)Factory, this was to be the Fender Japan Co,I dont think this bass design was made by the same company that Fender almost had to sue over because of them pirating Fenders designs, they went ahead and hide behind many diff names to throw off the lawyers who are leaning on them for copyright infringment royalties .
This bass should be a JV model,I have seen a few different variations of this bass but only 2 exactly like this model,The ones I have seen before all had Fender JV prefixes before the actual serial numbers,they(F/Japan) have alot of designs that never made it to production such as a 3 pickup type configuration model that had their pickups mounted on a slant opposed to straght up and down mountings, insted they were slanted at an angle for a more even tone,I even saw a few different versions of these contempory designed models finished in all WHITE  ,yes insted of all black they were all white alsowith the JV prefix.
I am not etching it in stone but I dont believe that these were made in any factory but the Fender one,if it was a 81 or 82 model then I may consider it but after the falling out with Fuji Ghakki(spelling?)I cant see them using them when they had their own factory pumping out enuff basses to even help the USA factory get back on its feat while they were producing the first time ever made US vintage re-issue models, they put made in USA decals on the Japanese imports and the rest they say is history.
Great bass though,The other one I saw was 500.00$ 10 yrs ago and everyone complained about its price, now they would be begging to pay that for a rare bass like this, they did'nt sound that great untill better pickups were added, the Japanese pickups fall short, the good Japanese basses now offer US upgraded pickups for a small fee

Not only did he sell it, but he sold it for about half what it was worth!
Still he made $100 over 6 years.

He said he got rid of it because he liked the action and playability of his jazz.
This is just me but if I don't like the action and playability of a bass I can usually tweek it into shape--- the sound is usually why I get rid of a bass. But like I said that's me and I guess I'm different. My singer tells me that. Little does he know.................
