No, I do not speak for MY bass. I'm talking about the new 70s P-bass. I saw it yesterday for the first time, and I just wanted your opinion ... http://www.fender.com/en-GR/products/se ... 0266202300

 WTF!! Now how do I get one of those? I have wanted a bass like this since I first started playing bass, back then I had the ability to buy any bass I wanted(no major bills or financial burdons, nothing to do with me having alot $$$)I had enuff basses to sell off and buy different ones that I liked or wanted at that time.
I dont usually swet basses though there are some I really like but its been far and long since a bass has really gotten me to Jonze, and this be the one,Judging by the item number that starts with the 026 prefix it seems to be Japanese made correct? the closest prefix to the 026 is the Japanese made at 025,MIM is 013 and American is 019 so I go with the Japanese made statement.
I may just have to sell off my 2 basses and buy one but only after they have proved their worth with a few years of quality necks, everything else is gravy when the neck is a solid one, time will tell.

This bass apparently was a July 2011 addition. Nobody has one yet. The 70's Jazz is MIM so this probably is also. as part of the same series. Funny but I don't remember that P-Bass neck from the 70's.

The MIM basses start with the prefix of 013 and 014 in the catalogs, everything from MIM has the 013 prefix except for the up-graded maple neck models and some of the 6 string geetars have 014 as.....
All the Japanese models in the Fender catalogs avail here start with the prefix of 025 so I would only imagine the 70's precision bass that starts with the 026 prefix would be Japanese and no disrespect to any MIM Fender owners the 70's precision looks like ONLY Japan would be making a bass like this(US could pull it off but why bother, they got the Japanese doing it better)they better step up the Japanese imports the legend is starting to grow and Japan is sending the NON EXPORT models hand over fist through privete dealers and there are tons of choices not currently offered over here.

This should give you an idea about the bass and its sound. Its a Japanese model.

seems like a very loud bass. I wonder how it is to play and has a very interesting comparison with the American model ... If found and tried, I'm looking forward to hearing his views. And something more. I hear many bass players can say that the Japanese fender bass is a bit better than the American. What do you think about this theory ?

I am of the opinion that they have very good necks, bodies, fit and finish that rival and sometimes exceed USA production. The hardware is not the same, but I'm not saying it is worse, just different and it seems to be usually manufactured by Gotoh. What is definitely inferior to the USA models is the electronics and that is a very bad place in an electric instrument of any type to have a deficiency.

Take for example the very limited production Japanese Fender "DUCK DUNN" P-Bass. There are less than 200 in the world. They look like a mouth watering recreation of one of his favorite instruments with a nice Candy Apple Red body, anodized pickguard and they have great necks that feel period correct for a late 50's P-Bass. (Duck later put a Jazz neck on his C.A.R. P-Bass.) I've played 4 and I've yet to find one that sounds like I think a late 50's P-Bass should. The MIM Standards actually sound better to me and any stock USA P-Bass will blow them completely away. It is no contest.

Another example is the STING Artist Model P-Bass and the recently discontinued 51 Reissue P-Bass. They both have the same electronics which use MINI-POTS. These small pots are cheap and plentiful in Asia and commonly used on much less expensive brands like Jay Turser, SX, etc. The tone caps on these CIJ's are also the green poly chicklet type which you find in almost all Asian basses. Actually the pickups themselves seemed pretty good in these basses but still they don't quite have the bite of a Telecaster Bass or a real First Generation P-Bass.

You could upgrade the electronics on the STING and 51 RI P-Basses to vintage correct USA specs, but the control cavity would have to be routed to hold standard CTS sized pots. The easiest solution in these models is to upgrade the pickup and change the cap leaving the mini-pots alone, which is what I did. I do not suggest routing the control cavity. A 250K pot is a 250K pot and should not effect the tone at all, it is just irritating to have to order replacement mini-pots if you ever need to replace one when you can get CTS pots locally.

A 70's Fender P-Bass should have a ceramic disc cap. I'd like to know what the electronics actually are like on the 70's P-Bass, so if and when anyone gets a look at them, please let me know.

Again I do not recall block inlays on stock P-Basses in the 70's. Am I wrong about that? Anyone recall one or better yet have one that is stock? Maybe you could order them like that. Just don't remember ever seeing one.

I could tell by the quality of the bass pretty much were it was made then add in the prefix's first 3 numbers that are very consistent in what guitars/basses get the serial number prefix.

The truth is that I have heard this for the electronics. Specifically I've heard complaints about the geddy lee jazz bass electronics . I do not know if this problem exists in all japanese basses ...
