I'm thinking I had an epifany when I switched to using my P bass at gigs as apposed to the Jazz I had been using. Don't get me wrong-- the Jazz honks but the P just seemed to do the job. One thing was no more buzz from neon lights and whatnot and what for. The next was that the P is lighter. The Jazz comes in handy for certain tunes but that's not a big deal. I started on a P bass so maybe that has something to do with it. The P just feels like "home". I will continue to use both type basses but as of now I favor the old home stump Precision bass. What about yooz guys??? :D

I untill the last year or so I ALWAYS had a Jazzbass but I usually also had a JazzSpecial(both P and J pick-ups,precision body,jazz/neck)So my P-bass was always watered-down with a Jazz honky sounding pickup bringing up the rear.
Sometimes I would have all three in my arsenal(Jazz,P,Jazz-Special) and the first to go in hardtimes would be the P because of having the Special I used for practice, but since coming across a great American P-bass for next to nothing I found that I favor it for some reason,it plays better than my JazzBass does but my Jazz has better and a wider array of tone especially w/S-1 switch.
I guess I would really like is a precision body w/jazz pickups and a 70's era thick maple neck w/blocks and binding AND Sunburst finish w/black pickgaurd, that would really end the search for MY ideal dream bass.

Certainly prefer a P-Bass for gigging. Reliable, noise free and I like the wider neck width. I kept buying Jazzes but the longest I ever kept a Jazz was about 4 years. I have P-Basses that are never going anywhere. I only ever sold off one P-Bass. I agree about the P/J being versatile and I have one that I like a lot.

Today I went to Hames Music in Gaffney, SC looking for a Blacktop P-Bass, hopefully in the White Chrome Pearl color, to check out. No luck with a Blacktop Bass at all but they did have one of the new Squire Jaguar Basses with the active P/J setup and 34 inch scale. That particular Squier Jaguar was a surprisingly good playing and sounding bass for the low price. Cant' say if they are all that good but this one Squier was very tempting for an outdoor gigging bass.

Then I went to see some live music at the Gaffney Peach Festival. The Jeff Gates Band was playing and that is who I went to see. (Jeff used to be with Nantucket if you've ever heard of them.) He was playing a sunburst Squier Strat and killed on "Voodoo Chile." He was ripping that thing up and down like mad. Apparently he is happy with it. So like the old saying goes, it isn't the axe, it's the player.

Well there are two series of most models. The USA version and the TRIBUTE SERIES imports. Both are nice, but the USA versions cost more and are considered "better" but you have to compare individual instruments and not lump all USA made ones or all Tribute Series instruments together because some are better or worse than others and a few are going to be amazing. Both are solid and I think both series have the same electronics.

i never owned jb's, the thin neck isn't my thing and the two volume-knobs aren't fast'n'easy to handle, (i'd rather go for a balance-knob). but the main difference is the pick-up, humbucking vs. single-coils, i prefer the mighty low mids and bass range of the preci, defintely!

Hey, you said I could have the box and then you said it was taken by the government for national security reasons! I don't care how you got it back, I just want to know why you're not sending me the box or at least offering something as compensation.
