Will do.

When I did that for my Ibanez BTB405 (their website says their pickups are passive, but something else - the controls? - obviously needs the batteries), I didn't get anything.

I'm always surprised by how often bass players will wax poetic about how much more "organic" (as if there was ever anything organic about an electric solid body) there "passive basses" sound.... When, in fact, if you aren't boosting frequencies with the tone controls on a Fender "active" bass, then you are playing what is essentially a passive circuit. My MIA Precision Deluxe has a Fender Original 57/62 P-bass pickup, and with the tone controls set flat that pickup sounds just like it does in any Precision.

In your opinion of course. My opinion is they sound different. The passive sounds less synthetic to me. Just my opinion though. Alnico pickups in a passive tone circuit sound magical to me.

They are passive pick ups. only EMG makes active pick ups as far as I know. What you have is the active preamp (electronics).

If only this bass had a passive/active switch... I'd go for it.

OK, pulled the battery -- nothing. So does the battery complete the circuit, so you get sound even if it's dead?

I hereby adopt all of the NICE people on this forum as brothers and sisters!

Um I don't have any dead 9v's about. Guess I'm going to have to start playing more so I can get one. Never thought about hanging onto a dead battery as a useful tool. :D

I did pull the battery that's in it, just to be sure it isn't dead, and the battery tester said it's good.

What I can tell you is that I had the original battery in it from the time I got it (about 2 years ago), until about 3 months ago. When I had new strings put on, the shop told me they also put in a new battery. So I ASSUME the original battery was indeed dead. (Yes, I know about assumptions.) Can't imagine it wouldn't have been - I was pretty faithful about practicing.

Phooey. I was never crazy about learning electical stuff. I know, I know, a responsible musician knows & understands their tools, so they aren't a tool. :(

Are things getting too sappy? Well, when I get my new Dominatrix bass, those who have been chosen will be very happy that I've accepted them as brothers & sisters.

I will, say, though, that Sabre’s wit does seem pretty sharp – like a sabre blade. As opposed to an épée or foil. (Yeah, yeah, REALLY bad joke. I apologize & whatever it is that Larry the Cable Guy says when he tells a bad one.)

Will? Don’t need a will. I'm going to spend it ALL on ME!!! There'll be nothing left for anyone to inherit! Except the earth. And the music.

However, if you’d like to adopt me and support me in the style to which I’d like to be accustomed, I’ll be sure to name you in my will. Or would that create an endless loop?

Do you cut up your spaghetti? Or twirl it? If you twirl it, do you need a spoon to help?

I got EXPERIENCE with spaghetti. :D

Kinda. Although I was thinking about endless loops and recursive loops and cartesian products. And I think that's how all the jokers on wall st ripped off the rest of us: they just kept feeding their money back through the financial circle, and skimmed the interest off the top each time.

Now if I had all that money, hmmm, what basses would I buy? (I know, that's a whole topic unto itself or three).

I must correct a statement in my last post. "... they just kept feeding their money back ..." should have read "... they just kept feeding OUR money back ...".

Most jumble apoligistic for the confusion.
