I know alot of people on here dont like the special but I was at a local music store today and tried 3 of them out. A white one a red one and black one. They were all very nice! The kicker was that the store was having a sale and the price was $679!! If they would have had the sunburst I would have bought it. I'm still thinking about the white or black. They also had a used American Standard black with a SPB3 in it for $630. Cant figure that one out???

GO WITH THE US STANDARD  Nothin but mostly bad press here dealing with the Specials, why not go w/proven winner and do the US standard ! you can always return it if it does'nt sut you but then again not many people dont already know the sound they are getting with one of them.
Or buy the special and return it if you dont like it,pssst>stick w/standard,there better and its used which means the wood is probably settled in by now and no suprises down the road when the AM special starts to dry and goes hay-wire

for 1/2 the price you can get an Am Std...you'd be losing money if you don't buy it! :)

I always wait a few years to go buy before I buy ANY new model,it gives them a chance to prove their worth or prove they should have never have been done.
Here's why,I bought a first year HW1 jazzbass, neck was toast and deemed unable to be fixed by Fender warrenty luthier, they offered me a new neck or a complete refund,I took the refund WHY ? Because there was over a 6 month backorder waiting list for a HW1 jazzbass neck due to all the problematic necks and this is from a Fender co rep who was in charge of our stores Fender acct.
This is'nt a one of story,I could fill this forum with horror stories which is why I stick with what I know works, you may have yourself an awesome bass for all I know and I hope you do,just keep an eye on it and if somethings not right have it checked out.!
ENJOY and what? NO PICS??

Having working on Fenders from all the different places of production is basses are tougher to make with lower costing parts, also necks need to be better made because of all the more string tension from larger strings being used.
Guitars have less string tension due to thinner strings and shorter necks so they are less likely to be problematic and need not be so critical with their necks because of all these things and opposite for basses.
Sorry if its all over the place I could'nt think on how to word my point.
