A quality instrument as nicely made as American P's? Or junky? Let me know if you know. Thanks.

Well as you might expect it isn't USA quality but it isn't "junky" either.

Are you referring to the kids bass? - OR What is a p bass Jr. ? It brings to mind the little p bass I worked on for a friend. if that's it-- I was not impressed at all outside of the fact that it MAY be okay for a kid. The one I messed with would not stay in tune-- I did everything-- maybe the strings need to be real small guage or something--it had some problems with it other than the tuning.

I had two of these up until a week ago when I sold my "pristine" one. I'm a small gal and used them as my beginner basses. I love them. The one I kept I added an active pup to make up for the lack of a tone knob. Required routing out space for the battery and relocating the jack. It was a pain, but worth it.

the quality is ok. Not bad. Not really good. These are made in Mexico. The tuners suck and the single volume control could be an issue. But for practice I don't think you could beat them.

Another post mentioned difficulties tuning. I had the same problems too until I replaced the strings with a set of fender short scales. The bass tunes fine now - and holds it pretty well too.

The biggest benefit is the weight. They are a little over 6lbs. I also have a musicmaster, which is at least a lb or two heavier. I can't play the musicmaster for more than an hour without causing shoulder pain that usually lasts a day or two. Keep in mind I'm a gal - and pretty small. My bony shoulders offer little padding. Others may not have this issue.

The short scale is something else to consider. It really is short. 28 5/8 compared to 30 for a mustang bass. Almost a full 5 1/2 shorter than a standard scale. If you play in E most of the time it works great. But if you start working your way up the neck it becomes somewhat difficult to reach past the 5th fret. This is one reason why I sold my second jr - so I could buy a longer scale bass. The short scale also messes with the tone. In order to compete with it's big brothers I play through a mesa m-pulse 600 with a mesa 18" cab. It can sound twangy if you plug it into just anything.

All in all it's a solid bass. I wouldn't consider it a "kid" bass at all. Great beginner bass. Great practice bass. I just probably wouldn't gig with it unless you add some active pups.
