ive been playing bass for a few years now and my main bass (actually the only bass that i still own, but ive played many basses before. i sold my old one one of my friends) is a MIM Jazz Bass. I love it and it works really well with most stuff that i do (i play any and every style of music), but i need a good bass for that real low booming bass sound. does anyone know a good fender for that? (it can also be a squier if thats whats available)

Check out a bass with Barolini Pickups (such as an Ibanez)

He meant Bartolini pick ups. Any good bass with good pick ups can do this. Dropping your tuning 1 step or 2 is going to give this effect too. The problem is with a 34" scale I wouldn't go past D. 35" scale basses works better for C tuning. EMG pick ups works well with these drop tuning too. Good luck!

PS. My basses are all tuned to D except for my acoustic 8)

If a Fender is what your interested in then I would go with a p-bass,there's a few diff options but its the bass of choice for almost any and all types of music.
You can get a p-bass deluxe available in both American and Mexican made models and both are available with active electronics, there have been a few changes on the new models dealing with the pick-ups and electronics offered on the new models but they are still available due to leftovers.
The price difference is about 600.00$ from the American made or the Mexican made. The the model's each individual pricing is reflected by the fretboard, wood type and finish used in making the bass which is'nt much more than a hundred bucks or so.
This is a great bass to get all the tones from all the types of music and also has the ability to "cut through the mix" as good as any other bass out there(actually better than most)being sold now.
Yry as many bass types as possible, only YOU can tell you what you like,if you listen to others you will never be satisfied with what you have.

There are a few Fender basses noted for an extra bottom heavy tone.

The 1972 and later Fender Telecaster Bass with the Seth Lover designed humbucker came to mind first. Figure on about $2,800+ USD in fair condition.

The Squier TB is a cosmetic reproduction of that Fender Telecaster Bass revamp but while the pickups appear cosmetically identical, the Squier isn't quite the same and the wood on the Squier isn't either but it is usually about $300 USD which is one-tenth of what the real Fender would run you these days.

As previously mentioned the active Fender basses with Precision type split pickups have the ability to boost the bass significantly and offer the added versatility of having soaring highs if you want them.

The recently discontinued Big Block Precision Bass also came to mind, but check each fret's finishing thoroughly as there are multiple reports of below average fretwork on some of the Big Blocks. However, it can produce a good Reggae Sub-Sonic type tone.

The trouble I get into with active basses like the Deluxes and Big Block is that they can get really muddy if you get too bass heavy with them and sometimes they will sound almost synthetic. They also can overload the preamp stage of your amp when you crank the bass way up. That is true of about any active bass. The ones with Alnico pickups seem to sound more natural and organic to me.

I'd put a set of stainless flatwounds on it too and crank up the compressor.

I have heard that the original Gibson EB-0 and -3 basses are known for low boom. Dub type sound.

True, because they have a very similar pickup to the humbucker on the 1972 and up Telecaster Bass. That is because they are both Seth Lover designs.

Hey op are you talking about the real low bass the hip hop dudes play in thier cars? If so that's usually not a bass-- it's this speaker looking thing that they put on a bass drum head. Just thinking maybe he meant that-- he WAS talking about Squiers you know.

You really are a racist, profiling poor Chef. I do picture him with one of those big long horns in a Ricola commercial.
