I purchased this bass from a reputable guitar shop
as a fender frankenbass they seemed to think the body
was not the original don't know if you can tell by the photos
original case , pups, neck plate, saddle, etc
even if it is not the original body I'm so stoked with it

You've got a 1978 Precision bass that has had the following parts replaced:
The pickguard is not original because it should be black for that year.
The knobs, tuners and string retainer were replaced with gold and brass hardware.
The nut was replaced with a Brass nut.

The bass got the total Brass treatment. Brass was the popular upgrade in the 70's.
Brass= sustain in the popular thinking of that decade.

The pickup appears to be original, although I can't realty tell from the pictures.

The neck plate would have an F on it with no serial number, and
the bridge looks to be correct for that bass.

Thanks for all the feedback just wondering
if the body was changed in the late seventies
would I be able to tell if the body was
Fender or something else as the condition
of the body matches the neck as in
consistant wear and tear

Agree with what BC Bassman said.

To find out more about the body. I'd suggest loosening the strings then carefully disassembling the neck from the body by removing the 4 screws. Look in the neck pocket for stampings, marks, etc and post photos of what you find. Next, remove the pickup and look for marks in pickup cavity, post photos and describe what you find. Then carefully remove pickguard and post photos of the electronics on the back side and post all the numbers you see on the pots. That will help people here judge whether it is period correct for the neck.

I dont know about you but to me it looks like a white Fender p-bass in great condition,I may be wrong but..The neck looks legit like was said earlier but the body has'nt any ink stampings, usually there's something in the pocket, sometimes a neck shim with the original serial number is stuck in there, take the pickgaurd off, there maybe something indentifing in there, router pin holes or finishing holes ETC...

Pot codes would help. Should be numbers on the pots. Remove pickguard and jot them down then post them here.

Thanks before hand for everybodys help with this.
Just a question if the body is not Fender (as there is no stamp marks) and is from the same era as the neck
would it be a warmoth or something similar
pot numbers are on the left 378046 and on the right pot RS1144 R1378
:)

The pot number that is almost complete dates to the 46th week of 1980. It is a correct number and would start 137 instead of 37. The other pot may have the same numbers under the solder. The electronics look correct for 1980/81. I'm 99% sure this is an aftermarket or non-Fender body. The first problem is that there should be a Fender sticker with the serial in the neck pocket on S8 serial basses. Even if it was refinished, I'm not seeing any CNC retainer holes either and there should be one visible on the body just below where the neck joins the body. There should be another under the bridge but I'm betting it isn't there either. Still would be a nice player. Looks like a Fender 1980/81 pickguard and electronics, a 1978/79 Fender neck but not sure of the body's origin.

One more thing. I think there would also be a slight notch for easier truss rod access on the 78/79 Fender body.
