Dear all,

I need your help on one point. I found a second-hand fender precision bass. but all of its parts belongs to different years(also it contains lots of non-original parts as well).

What is weird is the lack of serial number. On its headstock it has a PAT number. yesterday, I made some research on this on the net and in this forum, and I found some contradictory answers. some say that it might belong to a vintage instrument and some say that these are fake products. does anyone have an idea on this? where is this bass produced and when?

Thanks

How can we help without even a bass type ? got to give us SOMETHING to go with, can you get a pic to us ? the serials are'nt always on the front of the headstock especially with older ones, they could be on the back of the headstock or on the chrome neckplate as well.
Its hard to tell a model year without one piece of information, slow down and breath, the more info you supply the more we can give you back,no pics possible write down everysingle thing thats on the bass, its a start.

I've examined your photos. This is in my estimation a fake. There are so many things incorrect I don't know where to start.

The MAIN thing is that it has a 3 bolt neck. Fender Precision Basses never had a 3 bolt neck that I know about.

Other things that look wrong, the nut, string tree, neck radius (appears to be almost flat or at least 12 inches), pickguard shape, jack position, bridge all look incorrect. The tuners might be Fender, but with so many other things wrong they may also be faked.

Looks like a chop-shop instrument to me.

My thoughts as well,it looks to be a decent knock-off bass for sure,There were tons of imported basses in the late 70's and though not a true Fender many were well made professional quality guitars.
There seems to be a three bolt neckplate which is the biggest give-away but there appears to be some info stamped on the plate that may be of some value to point you in the way of finding something out.
What matters most providing your a bassist is how it plays,if its a good sounding well made bass then its not all bad,Some of my best basses to date are copies,I have the real ones to compare too and the brand doesnt always dictate the quality(usually it does, but not always).
Enjoy
After looking at the pics enlarged the bass may be a decent one at that,it looks to be well made and the neck may be a real fender from a jazzbass body,it can be possibly determined by removing the neck and there should be some info at the very bottom of the neck stamped in ink or written in,the body may have something to I.D. it also, remove the pickgaurd and it may give up its secrets, either way it looks older and original Fender tuners are cool in itself,it may be fake but it could be a great bass regaurdless.
