So two days ago, I said farewell to my first bass, my black Squier/Parts P Bass. Tough decision but I ended up using my two other basses more, so I figured it would be in better hands with someone else.

It will be missed.

In other news, I had previously intended on building my own '58/'59 P-Bass copy and ended up modifying my Standard MiM into a '58. While it doesn't have that era's color, it works fine. I switched out the neck for a Roger Waters P neck (just for the heck of it and the brass nut), installed a brass saddle bridge from Wilkinson, added a gold anodized '57 pickguard, Basslines SPB-1 pickups and changed the capacitor to a NOS K40Y Soviet Military PIO .047 cap. Its currently strung with D'Addario Chromes (50-105), which I've had on that bass for over a year now. Sounds greats and feels incredible. Here's a pic.

Currently I'm running on that, my Ibanez AEB8E acoustic/electric bass (strung with Fender tapewounds), and my '51RI. I'd say its a pretty good set... for now. I'm always GASing for more gear, haha. Got my eyes on either an American Deluxe P, or a Japanese Aerodyne Jazz (gotta love Ebay), but for now I think I'm solid.

Just felt like sharing. Here's a pic of the A/E bass.

I have a spare neck, spare 3TS body from Mighty Mite (from the initial '58 project), '62 pickup and internal components of a bass. I might end up building those into a 70's style P, but I don't know. Might do that and sell it... Not feeling the need for another passive P.

That MIM's turned out very well :D

I don't personally like gold anodised pick-guards, but that's just me, I know. I'd have left the nice white one on... But those Wilkinson Vintage bridges with the brass saddles are the dog's reproductive bits 8) (I was seriously tempted by the Vintage Advance AV-4 - still am, if I think about it  ) With the brass nut, you have the full set - very nice!

Just preference I guess, haha. :P

I was lucky to find the bridge in a small shop in Dubai, UAE, and from that point the idea hit me. The brass nut was a sort of "chance" thing. I didn't know what to expect, but I love it. I use D'Addario Chromes so the brass nut and brass saddles give a lot more punch than usual. Pretty pleased with that. :D

The Waters neck is, surprisingly, really good. Didn't think I'd get used to the wide neck and the flatter shape (got used to my '51RI), but its pretty comfortable to play.

Oooh, active pickups. What I'd give to consider an active bass.

As to the subtle differences and nuances of each bass. My Precision has the wider flatter neck which makes it perfect for the style it's used for. The Jazz neck is slimmer, slender and rounder which makes it unique. Each has it's own personality as well as it's own definition.

Playing a lot of basses is the key in finding what makes us happy, IMO, I got lucky in finding all three of mine.

I get what you mean oxfan. I had a J-Bass which I ended up selling cause I could never get used to the differences between it and my Ps. i gues its just personal preference, but I'm much more used to the chunky P-Bass necks.

Outbid by me,Never happen because I dont buy any neck before I see it in person period,I like to me to able to see the graining, truss-rod adjuster to be sure it's not over-tightened/maxed out or has a rounded out adjuster .
I try to make an informed decision with as much info as possible but a neck is one of the single most important pieces of the bass,I consider it the core of the bass,if the neck is crap; the bass will play, sound and have intonation problems, some can be adressed while others cannot. :(
