very proud and 6 years user of a Deluxe Active P Bass® Special, Rosewood Fretboard, Blizzard Pearl, 1-Ply Beveled Gold Vinyl Pickguard ...

took my Pbass for normal maintenance had a problem with second knob(turned all the way up the volume came down drastically). Tecni(very good and recommended) couldn't fix or pinpoint the problem told me the picks didn't worked but couldn't find any bad connections or damage on them. Do i need to change picks? or its a knob problem?? if picks which ones are recommended or the best ones i can use? would really like to maintain my bass as original as i can??? please help

Unless you can do it yourself, you're going to need a much better tech than the last one.

Don't know, it's not in my hands... :)

Sounds like a cap or pot to me....
The pickups are probably fine.

A good tech would have been able to easily diagnose and repair this... Heck, more than half the guys out here could!

I guess!! $@!& .. my prob is that i don't know anyone else i can trust my bass to :( ... well i need to look for 1 close by and of curse not a wallet douchebag... jejej thanks !!!

The volume goes down when you turn the "2nd" (tone) "knob"???

It never goes out, just down?

Is it fine with everything cranked?
(If it is, your pickups are fine)

It would have to be a cap or a pot....

Can you solder?

yes.. but it does go all the way down and the picks don't send any charge to the voltmeter :(

Because you're measuring them at the pot most likely...
All you're looking for on the PICKUP is the amount of resistance....

Until someone else comes along with a better idea, I'm going to say cap or pot...

Don't worry, there's a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people here who will respond to you soon.

Welcome aboard!

thanks homz... and 1 more data here its the Standard Vintage Alnico Split Single-Coil Precision Bass® Pickup
Pickup Switching: Pan Pot
maybe is something there between the knob and the picks
and my active pick works great that's how I m playing for now

If you have output at the normal audible level from a pickup and then turning a pot makes it go down in an abnormal manner, it is probably NOT the pickup.

What is the normal function of the pot that causes it to go down in volume?

Can you set sound from both pickups? Sounds like a signal could be going to ground that shouldn't.

Also since this is a multi-pickup active bass it will be more difficult to diagnose, actually nearly impossible without looking at it. But if a pickup is working and turning a knob makes it silent, the problem is not the pickup. Take it to a Fender authorized service center or a Fender certified tech.

I had a single strand of pickup wire that became un-grounded, and that caused an open circut that would'nt allow the pickup to produce a good magnetic field which produces poor volume and hollow tone.
This is mentioned as a possibilty and not a definite answer to your electrical issues, explore them all thorogly and make an educated decision to fit your needs.
