D'Addario; .50 .65 .85 .105 They're very easy on the nut, frets, the board, and fingers. I never had a finger issue with non nylons, but that's part of the nylon string.

Mmm. That's much more reasonable. The Rotosound Nylons are 65-115, which seems unreasonably floppy to me. My current strings are 45-105, so the tension would be comparable. Maybe I have to succumb    (I've been checking out sound clips from around the web, and I must say they do sound good...)

I used the nylons back in 1969. The new strings are really good. The local Sam Ash bass guy and I were talking about nylons. I mentioned to him that I wanted to go back to nylons a few months ago. He put some D'addario nylons on when some of the floor basses needed new strings. The players came in not knowing what they were. They are selling like crazy. That Sam Ash has the nylons behind the counter as regular stock strings. He's a very active player himself, and had switched over to nylons. They may not be for everybody, but they are a damn good set of strings. I learned a little something in 43 years.

I'll have to see what my regular music shop charges for them. Looking online, UK prices for d'Addario nylons vary wildly, from £40  to £26.95, which compares very well with regular flats...

One thing to consider, amp settings will of course dictate somewhat the sound of a set of strings at those settings. My Marshall MB4410 settings have them sounding to my liking. They will give you a very versatile sound.

Absolutely - I have to tweak mine even between half-round and regular flatties.

That's one thing I believe is easy to not consider when listening to strings, is the settings on the amp. Strings don't only have one sound to them.

The string size is one of the things I like about D'Addario nylons. Pretty stand size for most bass nuts. Some of the La Bella nylon run .60 .70 .94 .115.

You really have to be careful about some of the actual length on which bass. The type of bridge, and weather you're stringing through the body, or straight through to the bridge. The Am. Std. string strung through the body, from the anchor knob, to the base of the nut measures 36". Long scale with some strings just fits so the felt on the windings ends just clears, or almost clears the nut. George Santos at D'Addario told me a slight amount of felt in the nut is ok. 1/8" Or so is ok. My D'Addario Nylons set that way. The E string has the felt in the nut an 1/8", the A, D, and G fit just above the nut perfect.

Most flat wounds sound a bit "different" when first get put on,they are very tight feeling at first and little overtones can be heard, but after a shorter than most break in peroid they sound better the more you play'em,Compression wounds are great in the fact you can have both the mid to highs and they still sound deep/thumpy like an old school p-bass. try'em sometime, you will not be let down.
