Hey guys... longtime low-ender, 1st time on this forum.
I have a P bass I got in 1979 and as i best recall the color was listed as Sahara.
Does anyone know anything about that color? I don't think i've seen another bass with it.
Also what's the best way to value old guitars like that ?
Thanks y'all !

Thanks for responding. Yes, definitely a mix of tan and brown... and who knows what else.
Back in the day it was likened to the color of bubble gum under the desks at school and mine was called the "choco-bass" from time to time. It was a workhorse for many years.
Do you happen to know whether vintage parts are available... pick guard, thumbrest, bridge stuff ?
thanks again and pics are on the way!

as far as what ?

As far as "what else were you looking for" was about;what else about the color are you looking to find out, thats what I was asking you.
There are more parts available for your bass than China has tea, everyting from pots,thumbrests,pick-ups,tuners,strap buttons, bridge and pick-up covers and pickgaurds to name a few are available on the net and usually for a decent price,as with anything you buy the more you know the better you will do.
GoodLuck
AND PICS IF YOU PAALEASE ?

In Ox's apparent absence I offer the following. Click on the link in my forum signature below to get to the resources page on my bass site. (Right click and open in new window or new tab is even better.) Then scroll down and click on the red link for ONLINE BASS COMMUNITIES. When that page loads scroll down again to the section titled HOW TO POST PHOTOS IN THE FENDER FORUM.

Since I wrote that Fender changed the site software a bit. The Img button is now white and you only have to click the Img button once and then paste the link to your photo in between the meta tags instead of clicking, posting the link and clicking Img again. Sounds complicated but it really isn't. The cursor now goes to where you paste the link to your photo.

Photo post away!

To address your value question, the rare custom color will add value. The BEST way to get an appraised value is from a leading authority that people in the vintage guitar field respect. I suggest George Gruhn at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. The link to his site is also posted on my site. It is: http://www.gruhn.com/

His appraisals will give you an appraised value. Usually the price you can sell it for will be a percentage of the appraised value. That means just because he says it is worth $4000 does not mean someone will give you $4000 for it, but that you can and should certainly insure it for that.
