Hello,
I'm in the process of buying a Tony Franklin fretted P-Bass. Since this is a signature model it has a signature crafted plate which I would like to replace putting a "standard" P-Bass neckplate. Can anybody recommend the most suitable (compatible) model and a store that sells it?

Thanks

E-bay has a ton of'em,they all are compatable regaurdless of where they are made(US,Mim,Indo,Korea & Japan)and what guitar or bass they are for/from(guitar or bass are compatable)so basically any full size Fender neckplate is interchangable with another.
Why the change..? dont want all the fans or fellow players to know you are playing another bassists sig model ? I have all US. model Fenders and added the Squier Pete Wentz sig neckplate to them, also my Original 51 P-bass now has a Mark Hoppus neckplate insted of the original, NO,I am sorry...
I cant even Joke about things like this,Its all good Thanassis; your reason is YOUR reason ,I have seen Headstocks destroyed to hide its true model, even saw a decal painfully removed to only be drawn in my marker(and drawn poorly I may add)Be proud of your bass,Tony Franklin is NOT a name that someone should be worried about having on their bass,I can think of MANY other artists who I would in no-way want their ANYTHING to be on my bass.GOT A PIC?
How do you like it?? I almost got one, but decided to complete my one of my own p/j basses seeing that I have 2 of them just needing pick-ups,give up the low-down on it?
Enjoy the bass

Well my personal opinion about those signature related features added on products to attract more customers is that they distort (sort of) the personality of the initial product. It's great to know one model is endorsed by an experienced bassist but I mean to me that's it, no need to add extra features even if that is a custom signature neckplate. That is strictly my personal opinion and I realize it's sort of weird.

I agree to an extent, but Tony Franklin sig model, is his own, it's not a regular model that Fender painted or added a special bridge to. It's an actual model of its own. Like the Urge (I & II) were both an actual model of its own. But, to each...eh you know what I'm saying. enjoy the bass and good luck with your neck plate search :)

I agree with not wanting to "SPORT"someother players name on a bass for whatever the personal reason is BUT I 100% agree with PowerJazzBass when he stated that the bass IS Tony Franklins bass that he himself plays,It is a design that he chose to bass to be,Its not "just A Bass"he put his name on to market it.
But thats neither here nor there,I myself would NOT buy a Sting model bass because of the Sting signature at the 12th frett standing out like a sore thumb, but I do like Sting and what he did with the bass but thats were my love affair with him ends,if it was more subtle like the back of the h/stock >COOL,only on the neckplate>OK but the fretboard>UH UHN!
I see alot of famous bassists playing the Geddy Lee model which is a bit surprising but his sig on the bass is'nt a bullseye when you see the bass,I loved mine and everywhere I took it everyone loved the basses over-all look and were oblivious to the fact it was a "copy" of his exact bass.
Whatever your reason is its your bass to have look like whatever you deem cool.
BTW,how do you like it? play/sound good ? fit/finish OK ? HOW BOUT SOME PICS??

Agree they are all interchangeable. Even recent Asian knockoffs will usually fit. I take it one step further on basses I'm keeping forever. If it is for sure a keeper I have the instrument's name engraved on a blank replacement neckplate and then I store the original neckplate. A local trophy shop engraves them for about $6. I also put my state and driver's license number on the neckplate under the instrument's name so if it is ever stolen at least I've got a slight chance of getting it back. Haven't quite figured out how to mark this on my neck-through bass yet.

I like the Roger Waters signature on the back of the head instead of somewhere on the front of the bass. If you buy a signature model, why change the neckplate. It's part of the whole supposed reason you bought a signature model in the first place.

Lawsuitbass, I still have not ordered it, I will today, and will post pictures of it.

Thank you all for your help both on the neckplate replacement quest and the decision itself to change it.
