hello all,

I just recently purchased a '76 neck Pbass neck and slapped it on my current bass.

The neck did not come with keys, luckily, the neck on the bass prior to removing had '77 style tuning keys/machines.

On the D and G (G especially) the washer that sits on the front side of the head stock does not sit snug in the head and when tuned up the washed sticks out and is leaning towards the bridge.

To remedy this, I used an old bottle of super glue to try and keep it snug. The glue has settled, tuned her up again and it still has minor separation from the head stock (but not by much)

I was thinking of taking gorilla glue to it after work.

I'm worried, however, about any stress that this may have on the key or if there is an effect on the neck.

Thoughts, remedies?

Please advise.

Good call, sometimes over the years the tuner holes in the neck loosen a bit especially if the neck has had a few changes in the tuner dept they can not fit snugly and will tend to rise-up when tuned to key.
I have used plumbers tape to build up the bushing/gromet outer dimension by wrapping it around very snuggly(snuggly? awww.. how cute)allowing the vertical wedges to almost come through the tape, then press them into the holes, they should be hard to press in with only 2 or so wrappings of the tape, try it if your un-sure of gluing them in.
I had a similar prob with my jazz bass, the silver bushings that protect the body when strung through it on my jazzbass, I prefer the looser stringing so I had to glue them in or they would fall out if not held in by the strings, gorilla glue is some mighty pwerful stuff,2 years and they cannot be budged but dont over apply,Gorilla glue E-X-P-A-N-D-S so be careful and it can be used to help hold down the tuners,BUT VERY LITTLE!
