I am so stoked! I own a '76 P-Bass with a PJ EMG config. and as we speak, my tech is installing an EMG BQC active EQ system. Has anyone out there already have this system and tell me what they think of it?

I do not have the active eq, but hey, you got a great set up there.

Hey, thanks. I've had the pickups on for 20 years or so. I was one of the first in the Fort Wayne area to have EMG's on a bass. Lately, one of the volume pots was going bad and I saw these EMG EQ systems on their website. I thought,"What the hell, why not?"and ordered one. The P-bass has always sounded awesome, this should be icing on the cake!

LOL, me I've dreamed of having EMGs on my bass for 20 yrs, bit the bullet last summer. I love it. I got the P/J set up too. Good luck with the active eq. I'm thinking of either doing that or putting a J passive set up on my Squier this summer.

funkamania, I'm in Fort Wayne, too. Would I know you from your band?

I doubt it. The last band I was with that played the Ft. Wayne area was "Jumpstart" blues band. That was nine years ago or so. I guess there's a country band that goes by that name now. Right now I'm doing some recording and I've had contact with the former guitarist with Jumpstart recently and we're thinking about doing a power trio together.

I'll let you know if the EQ knocks my socks off when I get the P back from the tech,so you can make a more informed decision. I also wanted the tech to rout the body for another battery. EMG says two work best. Also, with all the stuff I have to power, I thought I would be replacing batts every couple of weeks. The tech is one of these "Do no harm" guys and talked me out of it. He said he'll do it later if batt. drainage is a problem.

Yo, Fenderheads! Got the the bass back and here's what I think. Do I recommend it: yes, I have more control over the tone then I did before. Do I consider it a must-have item: no, but if you get one, more power to you. I want to warn you, YOU WILL HAVE TO ROUT THE BODY TO GET THE CONTROLS TO FIT! The circuit boards attached to the pots will not allow a drop-in fit. I thought depth would be a problem because of the double stacked pots, but it turned out to be width. I may have to remove the pickguard to change the treble EQ settings (there are two switches on the circuit board) because the highs are just a bit too much. This is through headphones though and might not be a problem through an amp. I need more playing time with an amp to make a fair call. I'll get back with you with updates.

When I did it, they told me to do the same. I kept my 9v, and think maybe next time I'll add the other 9v. That said, I'm happy with what I have. I just want to have the EMG HZ(passive) on my VM this summer.

That's awesome. It'll be a little playing around to get things tune properly then. That's cool tho.

It just goes to show you what difference in amps there are even in the same brand. I have a 30W Hartke for coffeeshops and it's hard to keep the sound from being too bright (like my headphones.) Run the bass though my 140W Hartke and it's Bowel Movement City. I also have the Ampeg SVX software in my computer and crave more high end. So, I'm just going to leave things controlwise where they are for now.

Sounds like we have the same taste is the way our bass sounds. I have a Hartke Transient 5000 - 500 watts of hell...lol, through a KMD cab. I like the set up. Sounds good with both my main basses.

Sounds like an awesome rig! I've always liked Hartkes. I'm thinking about getting a 5500 with one of those new 15" cabs. The speaker is part paper-part aluminum. I thought about making the change to Ampeg, but everyone uses them. I just gotta be different. One day I went into Sweetwater Sound and they had a stand-up of Cheryl Crow endorsing an Ampeg SVT. I asked the salesman,"Do you want to sell an Ampeg?" He says,"Yeah." I said,"Well, take that stand-up, rip it to shreds, feed the shreds to wild dogs and then burn thier poop. Because, she is an insult to bass players everywhere." I've had kind of a distain for Ampegs ever since.

LOL, wow, you really dislike her. I don't dig her music, I know she's very talented musically. She was a music teacher. I like Ampegs, but $$$ can't afford it. I like SWRs too. If I have the money I'm thinking of going back to Trace Elliot, I know that's expensive too, but noone buys 'em. I like the sound I had before with Trace.

If I got a Trace, I'd develop an urge to drive on the lefthand side of the road!
