Again to me this falls under your personal prefference,Its hard for others to know your playing style, your feel,set-up preferences and what what amps you choose,if your a giging and recording type player you and you alone want your bass to sound, play and respond, its very hard to tell YOU what to prefer its something that you will have to dig down deep to extricate, there are way to many variables to give a general idea on what it is YOUR trying to locate.
Rember "ONLY YOU CAN HELP PREVENT FOREST FIRES! and only you can choose the best bass for YOUR needs and what YOU deem a great sound for the type of playing you have do,keep playing as many basses as possible and then, and only then you will find your perfect bass for whatever you are attempting to do,You should worry about the quality first, then your tone can (usually)be tweaked, neck quality/stability is first on the list for me,without a good playing neck a bass is'nt worth the straplocks its sporting.

I almost forgot,I have the S-1 switch in both my basses(was'nt planned on)and they really change things up without venturing too far from the original Fender tone.
On my Jazzbass I love PERIOD! it takes the crisp tone of the Jazz bass and amplifies it just a bit and thickens the tone increasing the growl jazzbasses are famous for by making both individual jazz pick-ups combine as one humbucking pick-up that is now controlled by a lone volume knob(no longer two) that works both pick-ups together like a reg P-type ,I rarely even use the pick-ups in regular jazzbass polarity anymore(the S-1 changes the reg.reverse polarity to series)its like a passive bass on steroids with a push of a button.
I am not impressed this much with the S-1 on my p-bass,when not in use the bass sounds like a reg P-bass but when pressed the p pick-up splits up and becomes two single coil jazz pick-ups which lowers the volume a bit and thins the tone out,but if you roll off the tone knob the bass comes to life a bit it regains its volume that it had before activating the S-1 but NOT add anymore thickness to the sound.
Its very odd to me what it does to a P-bass,S-1 on w/tone ON max:much quieter and hollow, roll the tone knob OFF 100% the bass comes to life getting louder w/more treble(tone totally off but treble and tone higher :?: )I dont see how rolling the toneknob 100% off increases tone, treble and volume,BUT roll tone knob up 100% everything muffles WTF go figure.
So needless to say I dont use the S-1 on my p-bass other than to lower the volume for whatever reason, but the Jazzbass really benefits from it,nice addition to any jazzbass without compromising any of its tone.

Congrats on the purchase. Can you use punctuations please. I know this is an internet forum not a formal English class. But I had to read both your post twice to get what you were trying to convey to us. Welcome to the Forums. BTW, no pic no bass

I had a 1998 Fender USA Deluxe Precision and it was a very good bass. Mine had just the 9 volt system but I think yours will have the 18volt unless they went back to the 9. The bass was very good for getting all kinds of sounds but it did sound like itself to me. It had it's own sound but could mimic a P or a J bass very well. Mine was lightweight and very easy to play. I had the rosewood neck. It had abalone dots. I couldn't see the dots on stage because it was so dark all the time up there. We were playing alot of gigs (still am) and I wouldn't use the bass because at the fast pace of song changes I'd be playing the wrong darn note . I couldn't see the positions. And since there are more frets on it than a regular P, I would get lost. I know -- I suck. You probubly didn't need all that info either. Unfortunately I sold the bass.
