So I've been playing a 60's vintage reissue Jazz Bass for about 6 months now. Yesterday I was killing time in GC and saw a Blizzard Pearl P-Bass Special with the J Bass pups and was intrigued. I played it, loved it, bought it. While I love the smooth, warm sound of Janis (my J Bass with D'Addario flatwounds), it's really a kick playing around with Maddie (the new bass) and getting such growl out of it. Janis is jealous. I'll have to find a way to keep them both happy now. Such fun.

How, praytell does one upload a pic? I tried to do that and couldn't find any mechanism to accomplish said event.

About 2 yrs ago I wrote the following directions for posting photos here: http://brotherdave.com/add_comm.htm

SINCE I WROTE THOSE DIRECTIONS they changed the site software here. The IMG button is now WHITE and NOT brown as posted in those directions. Also you DO NOT have to click the image button but once and your photo link goes where the cursor lies between the open IMG & close IMG tags. I'll be editing those directions to reflect the software update on the Fender site in the immediate future.

Also you do realize that once you name a bass you pretty much wind up keeping it forever, correct?

Congrats on the new bass and we look forward to your photo posts! I think for the money, that particular model represents one of the best values for tonal versatility in any maker's line. I hardly ever need an active bass in the vintage R&B/classic rock outfit I play with, but if I did find myself need one to take to the gigs we get around here then that model would definitely be the one I'd want to take. A big point in its favor is that while alder is no longer used on the MIM Standards, it is still specified on the Deluxe Series P-Bass Special! You hardly ever see one in stock around here as they get gone pretty quickly too.

Unfortunately, you ARE correct brotherdave. :)

Hmm, I've named all my basses from the 1st one to the current ones, but I do not have any emotional connection to any of them, except my '89 that I do not have a problem getting rid of them. The ones modded usually I keep.

That just is not civilized! LOL!

Farmers don't name their BEEF cows that would wind up on the table at home. The milk cows which they keep indefinitely are far more likely to get named.

It is hard for me to sell a bass I've named, so I don't name any bass I'm not planning to leave behind when I go to the last roundup. Lots of them come and go, but only my keepers get names.

+1 on the names!

Br Dave, are the MIM Standards definitely not alder these days? If not, what? Basswood? (I know they don't SAY alder on the Fender site, but then nor do the American Standards, and I refuse to believe they're built of basswood  )

The saber through the neck gives it that really sharp sound I was looking for.

PVTele is either rich, or he found the perfect woman!

Well, I'm certainly not rich

(Nor likely to be, considering the way gear prices are going...)
