Encore are still around in the UK. There was quite a good review - well, a very good review considering it's a budget instrument - in Bass Guitar Magazine, Issue 47, of their basic P-Bass model.

Cleaned up and given a good setup, you've a very decent instrument there. My guess is someone added the "Fender" decal afterwards, but that's a minor point - not as if it's a collector's model  However, if you were to replace the pickup with something like a Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder, or an SPB-1 if you like the vintage, James Jamerson sound, and put on a set of good strings, d'Addario or Rotosound or something, you'd have rather unique and very playable bass for next to nothing. Can't lose!

Welcome to the forum, Hurricane!

At first glance, both the decal and the string tree on the headstock looked "wrong" to me, so I did a little research for you.

Turns out that Encore is the actual brand of this bass, and they were a budget instrument company back in the 80's/90's, much like the Agile guitars of today. It looks like they are well regarded as "modders", and are quite playable once the modifications have been completed.

Here's a thread from Basschat in the UK that you may find of interest:

Hope this helps!

1+

Could'nt of said it better myself,It has all the characteristics of a Fender copy from the 90's era,7 bridge screw down holes opposed to 5 and 3 on the through body style bridge,Fender decal looks aftermarket completely, dont worry to much about anything other than how it plays and sounds compared to good looks(pertty basses do help) SOME Fender copies are superior to the original bass being copied while others are plywood glued together and a crappy playing neck sometimes without even having a truss rod and I have seen "no truss rod necks "and you cant adjust them period unless a shim is used which will only tilt the neck one way or the other and if it has to much or too little relief there is'nt any way to adjust. GOOD LUCK

And it is an unlined fretless! FUN!
I don't see a truss rod adjustment, but could be on heel of the neck. Think I might put flats or nylons on it and play around with it at home just for fun.
