I noticed I was still getting some buzz from my Squier VM P after I had checked and double checked everything. It turned out that the instrument cable input jack was slightly touching the bottom off the control cavity and grounding/regrounding/something screwed-up with the bass. I dremel'd the bottom where it was contacting and the buzzing went away.
I don't know if that makes any sense, or can even cause buzzing/grounding issues, but it worked for me.

i don't know, i don't think that would be a problem, was the cavity in your bass shielded, or just wood, because mine is just wood with a finish on it like the rest of the body.
