but these are the standards on the squiers from 98... they sound pretty good, but i do have a ton of buzz happening, the duncans look beefier. i'll probably save my money and get them, i'd actually like to get an entirely new electrical system in there, but thats where i really don't know where to go

Your pickups aren't the problem if your getting 60 cycle hum (electronic buzz) from them....

I suggest you look into the grounding....

Is the wire under the bridge making contact with it, or did it sink into the wood? Are all the solder joints good?

That should not be suffering from ground hum.

The ground under the bridge is sunk into the wood I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to move it out of the dip or not

Been a very harsh day here, but since I know the correct answer, I will post this before I shut down....

Wrap the ground wire around the closest bridge screw, then tighten it down... That should work for a few years.

Thanks I'll give that a shot, should I wrap it above or below the bridge?

It's too bad there's not a smaller hole adjacent to the screw holes in the bridge, where you could thread the ground wire through, crimp on a terminal connector, and get a very positive ground connection to the bridge assembly. 8)

that would be pretty cool, i never understood why the ground wire was just resting on the wood in the first place.

I forget what Fender bass I was working on but the ground wire was long enough and stripped back enough and the little indent the size of the wire was there under the bridge plate in the body. The wire simply was put in a bridge screw hole.

Put wire in hole - put bridge plate down-- screw in screws- perfect ground.
The most important thing is for the bridge plate to lay perfectly flat. You don't want the wire above the bridge plate.

right, thats what i was thinking, just pull the wire through the hole and tighten it down and have it grounded that way.
