None taken. I turned 69 a couple of weeks ago and I'm just grateful I'm still gigging!

Thanks, oxfan. I have a clear preference for Precisions, but I'm having a tremendous amount of fun with the Godin. I never thought I'd find a 5-string fretless that I could get around on as fast as I seem to on this one. With a Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0 I can get a pretty good faux upright sound. It's great to find something new.

Ha ha.low-Hz-blow knows I respect him. It's not like he was Pakistan or anything  . i apologize if I seemed snappish earlier. One of the attributes of these forums (particularly the P section) is the general civility and mutual respect shown, and the ability of everyone (except maybe, me) to maintain reasonable standards of discourse.

In any event, I am now unmasked as NOT being a tattooed teenager, for better or worse. (There's a local hotel that has a "Jazz on the Patio" program on Friday evenings, and the last time I attended the the average age of the trio was probably about 67! Which was reduced considerably when my 63-year-old lady friend joined them on percussion to what, 65 and a fraction?) Music knows no age limits (specific genres may show a bias in one direction or the other -- I'll bet there is a wide gap in average ages between lovers of Dixieland and hiphop, for example). The bass scales written out in 1911 are as solid and meaningful as those written in 2011. The context changes, but that's all.

By the same token, have there EVER been any improvements to the Precision? I have a '51 RI, and an AV '57, and there's not a bass I would trade either one for. I love my Godin, but it's not a replacement -- it's a different voice.

Thanks to all, both for the compliments to my basses and encouragement. Just so y'all know, I spent Memorial Day afternoon in my American flag shirt playing my Godin and a couple of harmonicas (got a gig coming up for our new lineup). Life is good.

John

Not too long ago I found the Fender Jazz Bass that I wanted to go along with my FSR Precision and Squier VM Jazz. Slowly but surely I've been modifying the Fender Jazz, new Baklite knobs (thanks Sabre) new pickguard and will be installing the pup and bridge covers this week as soon as the bridge cover comes in, ordered it Friday.

I pick up one of the Fenders and have to put it down to pick up the other one. I'm finding it harder to quit playing one long enough to pick up the other. With the new SPB-3's on the P Bass, it's incredible.

First time I've ever been happy with all my basses, just the way they are.

Now am I completely satisfied?

The VT Bass Deluxe is very nice, as is the Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor.

Dreaded G.A.S.

dude, it's really hard to pick between my jazz and precision, so i'm just going to say my favorite bass is fender, LOL each has it's place, each has it's voice, if i could mix them i would :D

josey, what about making a double-neck or one 8-string out of them... or clamp them string to string, open all volumes at max* and play 'em with a hammer on the bodies back: there you go!!!
*(adding heavy distortion would help!)
