Maybe the NICP membership can vote on it?

NO!

well see heres the deal, your son is lucky he grew up with a guy that loves guitars, and music,

So I guess a lot of the guys out here (myself included) who didn't grow up with a parent that loved the guitar are unlucky also? :P :D

You may think my son was lucky, but consider that he didn't get his own TV! :P

i'm guessing thats how he started down the road to get the 74 musicmaster..

They've seen me play since they were born...

He learned to play on my vinatge MM Saber and he picked up VERY quickly, so the next big contract I got, I got him the vintage Musicmaster... What better way to start?
It was a good investment, because they are now selling at auction for over 2.5 times what I paid for it...
He still has it and will not part with it.

i wasn't that lucky, i grew up with a very old school religious mother so i was in band (i played saxophone, i enjoyed it,

I played alto sax in school band from 4th grade until 8th grade...
I found it was WAY easier to get girls with an axxe than a sax.
So Freshman year I traded my previous bass and the sax in to get a nice mid 70s Ibanez Black Eagle... Wish I still had it.

so i didn't have any of the good stuff i wasn't even allowed my own tv until i was 15...

Did you feel deprived? :? :P

In my day, kids didn't have their own TVs until they moved out of the family home....

There were usually 1 - 2 family TVs.

My kids both made it to age 18 without a TV in their bedrooms...
They seem to be reasonably well adjusted adults today.. :D

but then i flew the nest and now have totally invested a lot of time and money into guitar playing and I LOVE IT. thinking back after i got the bass and it felt much better to me, and i liked it better than 6 string stuff, i remembered that i always used to prefer listening to songs with more of a driven bass line, and listening to the bass line period, i just didn't know it yet HAHA

But I think the important question is "Do you now have your own TV? :P

OK, AND OK :(

i guess you are right about the not having parents that don't have a love for music, i guess i just thought you didn't have parents, like you were spawned from the universe with a guitar in hand at some point. i guess it means that i'm just in the same boat as you and having to now fend for myself.

and yes it's easier to get chicks with an axe than a sax, but i didn't get my first guitar until after i was married, so it was never any matter to me. i wanted to sell my sax and get a guitar, but my mom would not have it, because she paid a nice amount of money for a jupiter, instead of buying something cheap like a yamaha, and she was like you need to hand it down to your son, and i'm like what if he wants to play something else....and plus i don't play it, why do i need it, i haven't touched it since the last time i played it in my high school graduation.

and just so you know i do have my own giant 70 inch tv, the big 300 LB ones from several years ago when they first came out with HD before HDMI cables... my brother bought it for like 2 grand, and he moved out of his house, and was like do you want a tv, and i'm all like yeah, he's all like if you go get it you can have it, so i'm like HELL YEAH and now i have a free giant tv of death. :D

It's not a good thing to hand down.
The pads will dry up and leak by then, and it will cost a few bucks to repair...
(Now you just need to convince her, and you'll be on your way to your new Fender!)

yes i found some role models, so i'm good :D

and i know it will take a lot to repair, the pads were pretty dry when i opened the case a few years back, and yeah it's bent in the main part anyway, and nothing lines up, so i really don't know why she wants me to keep the darn thing, i think i'd rather ave a tele than an old saxophone..

In other words, you have no preference? :?

Then I think we should definitely have a vote on it...
What a glorious day it is!
Usually no one gets to vote...
It's usually almost divinely handed down to me....

Vote early and vote often![/b]

I vote for "The Chef"...when something fits so well, why change it??

I vote "Chef"

Back in the Stone Age, people could (and often did) put non working TV's out with the trash, WITHOUT the need to make appointments with the city, state, and local Haz-Mat cleanup organizations.

I learned early on that these discarded sets were GREAT sources for tubes, recitifiers, and all sorts of parts...bag 'em up, and bring 'em to the drug store, which had the big old tube tester....toss the dead ones, and keep the good ones.

Didn't take too long doing that before I adopted a non working TV and brought it back to life with my parts stash....Voila! A TV in my room at last!

Back when I was a boy, we didn't have the money for them new-fangled thingamabobs.

We cut the front and back out of a cardboard box and took turns watching while somebody did the TV part. Then we'd walk 6 miles to school in the snow.

Another vote for "Chef"!

I didn't have a TV at all till I was 25, and decided finally to buy one. It was a little Sony Trinitron, just like this one:

hey josey, i also play in a worship-team and our eldest do really appreciate when we rock the church. we can/shall play loud as long as the visitors do hear their own voices (round 90db).
since the handling of drum-sound is quite difficult in the high and wide space of the room (it's a 12th century church) we traded to e-drums which solved the whole troubles at once.
i'm glad you're in the NICP-bunch too, nice to have fellows like you...
i believe in god and i believe in rock'n'roll, not the worst mix in this world!

All I have to say is this is my best bass!:
