You're only 5 years older than my son (who got his first 74 Fender Musicmaster when he was about 10 years old.)

ATTENTION NICP MEMBERS!

The artist formerly known as "Josey Wales" shall here-forth be known as "The Kid"... So it is written, so shall it be!

and the beatles are the reason behind me ever wanting to learn how to play the guitar, and bass at all.. seriously i still study their music, i just wish i was alive during their time.

When I was 6 years old, I had the 45 (RPM) of "Come Together" by the Beatles and used to listen to it over and over... It appears I had a bass preference even before I started playing.

lol, can i call you papa??

and if so, can i bum $20 bucks?

well see heres the deal, your son is lucky he grew up with a guy that loves guitars, and music, i'm guessing thats how he started down the road to get the 74 musicmaster..

i wasn't that lucky, i grew up with a very old school religious mother so i was in band (i played saxophone, i enjoyed it,but saw no real point out of band class for that instrument.) i wanted a guitar and my mom said "no thats for the music of the devil" i said mom, i want an acoustic to play church music with "nobody in church plays the guitar so you can't have one" (we went to a very old school baptist church, all the only instrument was a piano, and an organ, and then the choir, i mean shoot they still sing from the hymnal....) and then i ask my dad, and he's like your mom already talked to me about this sorry, i wish you could get one i think it's friggin sweet, but no... (my dad was not oober religious like my mom)

so i didn't have any of the good stuff i wasn't even allowed my own tv until i was 15...

but then i flew the nest and now have totally invested a lot of time and money into guitar playing and I LOVE IT. thinking back after i got the bass and it felt much better to me, and i liked it better than 6 string stuff, i remembered that i always used to prefer listening to songs with more of a driven bass line, and listening to the bass line period, i just didn't know it yet HAHA

even my worship pastor at church was joking with me one day (i'm working my way onto the team so i can play) he's all like i don't appreciate the fact that i went to school 4 years 5 figures to study bass, and then this kid comes along and buys a bass and three weeks later he's playing the darn thing...

yeah. i like to ramble, i wish there was a place for my ramblings.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back in another box of chocolates. You’re stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there’s nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there’s a peanut butter cup or an English toffee. But they’re gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you’re desperate enough to eat those, all you’re got left is…is an empty box, filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

This is your place to ramble. You're experiences aren't all that different than a lot of other peoples. The church thing is very common, you think guitars and basses were bad, drums were the height of blasphemy. In most churches now, they have them in cages, actually the plexiglass things, to keep the under control sound wise. I think it's ridiculous.

Most places up here won't allow amps on the platform.

Sorry, I need an amp close by to feel the sound.

Getting money off Sabre?

While he may be old enough to be your Daddy, there are a few of us to be your Grandfather.

I think you'd be better off with Uncle bob, he's a lot more stable.

well honestly i can understand the plexiglass box for the drums, because in most churches if the drums are just open then it will be overpowering, or to loud for the old people, like our drummers have creative-ness and everything, just the drums are mic'd and put through the mix so it's worth it to have the plexiglass. the drums are center stage so thats cool, i used to attend one church out here where the drums were off the stage and in the far back corner, not mic'd, not mixed in, and it was stupid.... i mean generally the guitars in a church setting aren't that loud, and amps are allowed on stage so thats all good, in fact all of the gear stays on stage during the teaching, because there is no back room, our church is in an old restaurant that we are leasing from the city, so essentially our stage is plywood with carpet... HAHAH but no where to put anything.

and hey i like being the young guy, because i get to learn a whole ton of junk from the older dudes so it's all good.

hey josey, i also play in a worship-team and our eldest do really appreciate when we rock the church. we can/shall play loud as long as the visitors do hear their own voices (round 90db).
since the handling of drum-sound is quite difficult in the high and wide space of the room (it's a 12th century church) we traded to e-drums which solved the whole troubles at once.
i'm glad you're in the NICP-bunch too, nice to have fellows like you...
i believe in god and i believe in rock'n'roll, not the worst mix in this world!

you know what, i have seen churches use e-drums, i think that would be a good idea, and it solves the mixing issues :D

i believe that god digs rock'n'roll so it's not a bad thing HAHA

Amen to all of that, Robert!!

Josey, you're wise beyond your years, man :D

You know, in church it's God who's centre-stage, and we're just there to help people, whatever age they may be wearing, to worship Him - to serve, in fact. When we're playing rock, or blues, or jazz or whatever, then it's the music that's centre-stage, and so it should be.

There's more to this NICP thing than meets the eye
