Many years ago I happened across a beautiful P-bass in an insurance claim (roomie worked for a company that recovered a stolen instrument, but they had paid off the insured, and auctioned off the instrument) and purchased it. A beautiful, but well used, black body with tortoise shell pick guard. It has traveled a long way with me now 32 years later, and has seen its share of roads and concerts.

Now I'm looking to sell it, but the heel plate was removed prior to my purchase - I can only imaging by the one who ripped it off. Based on the heel stamp, it was made 3 MAR 68. It never really mattered to me until now.

Question is this:

Am I SOL, or is there a way to have a serial number replaced on this instrument? It's a fine instrument, and would bring a nice price if I could somehow replace the serial number.

Any ideas?

Try eBay. There are sometimes genuine neckplates on there but you might have to watch for a while before finding a 1968 one. Also it will be pricey. Good luck.
