you can get a MIM up-graded series which comes with a decent looking body,559.00$ give or take, you can also buy it direct from all the major music stores, then comes the american p-bass that can ordered with a perticular body color(or lack of).
Porters bass does have a non-original neck,I think one of a couple possibilities is that he wanted a thinner or diff feeling neck more to his taste or it just maybe a replacement for a bad neck, and the new neck looks like its been giging for a decade straight through.

Fender's AMERICAN DELUXE is currently available in NATURAL. There was a FSR (Fender Special Run) MIM Standard P-Bass in natural made for both Guitar Center and Musician's Friend a couple of years back. Each chain had different pickguards. One of those might be found used and would be a good one to seek out!

I have the FSR Standard. I have been told that the MF variety had white pickguards while the GC had tortoise shell plastic. Mine came from MF with the tort, for what that's worth. The only flaw was that it comes only with the rosewood fingerboard. I didn't really care because I bought it convert to a Warmoth fretless neck.

nice

nice bass, but how do the round-wound strings go with the maple fretboard, don't they gonna leave notches in no time?

You must think you have REALLY sharp eyes!

...but, who said they were round wounds? As a matter of fact, I string all my basses with Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats.
