I play in two bands, one blues band and a church band so I decided I need a spare to go with my P bass. I found a Mustang re-issue with considerable modifications to include active pickups and a chrome bridge cover, it looks and sounds very good. Price is $250.00. Any opinions about price, durability, and playability?

For what they are both Mustangs and Musicmasters are decent little basses. I've never heard enyone complain about a stock Mustang. I'd be less concerned about the parts of the guitar that came from the factory being quality and holding up, as I would the mods that have been done holding up, or producing something you like. I'd take a look around and see what the going rate for some of the used stock RI's are before I'd jump on a bass that's been heavily modded.

I did buy it, changed out the strings from .90's to .105 Rotosounds, it sounds very good. The only problem that I am having now is some of the strings play louder that others, so I have to be careful to keep the tone even. Other than that, it's fun small scale bass.

The only problem I have with short scale basses (I have an EB-3 copy) is finding short or medium scale bass strings.
