Nobody my age appreciates the classic side of metal. Being a fan of the NWOBHM nets me some very narrow possibilities. Metal fans today want more crunch and less bass. It sucks. Most of the metal heads I've jammed with just don't have maturity. I'm not tooting my own horn, because I acknowledge the fact that my skills are relatively garbage, but at least I'm fitting in some playing time amongst the wife, kid, and military job. All I ask is the same, and for Christ's sake, please reach back past the 90s for some metal.

Soapbox complete.

Sorry bout the long windedness, I just hate my age group when it comes to expectations of sound and success.

We took a long time to get out and play due to the fact of our seperate interests in what to play--Jazz, Rock, Fusion,Young Guy Rock, Stones, Beatles-Kings X, Folk Rock, King Crimson, Peter Gabriel--- we were all over the place. We ended up doing music that basically we weren't into in our own private stereos.

Classic Rock walked thru the door and fell down the basement steps (our singer). Yes he fell down the steps and he was "in". How could you not like that? It didn't hurt that he could sing Zep, Journey, Nightranger, Billy Squier and a whole host of that stuff, either. It's what we went with. It's what sounded best and it got us some fans right away. It wasn't a group choice untill we saw that we had a great singer and he lived in the eighties. It turned out that he was the dude than ran the put put golf course back in the day. Kicked me out a couple times.

Had a guitarist that could shred like a pro. Guy was pretty humble bout it too. He just walked into my group because he was riding our submarine to get qualified. It got to the point where I just wasn't anywhere near his level. Great dude that he was he kept it simple for me. 6 months at sea and him, another bassist in the crew, another guitarist, a singer a drummer to program the machine, and a guy with a macbook put together an album. Damn good stuff. Mad at myself every day for downplaying my abilities at the time.
