True but maybe a full blown Fender you want to keep a very long time isn't the best training ground for learning to do your own mods. I suggest buying a used Asian knockoff and overhaul it first to learn your way around. That way if you really mess up then you have messed up the copy and the damage or loss is far less significant. I have seen P-Bass copies go for like $50 on eBay. Get one and take it apart and put it back together. Modify it. Good experience like that will be invaluable.

I have seen bridges on Fender P basses in different positions- some almost 1/2 different than each other. That's bridges. Right--- the way I was thinking was that the cover is going to be in a different spot if the bridge is. Either farther away from the pu or closer to it. I think alot of repair guys might just stick the cover over the bridge and make sure it's straight and screw it down-- he didn't measure in the exact middle of the bridge plate. Doesn't suprise me one bit. Nice bass by the way.

I wanted to put a bridge cover on my RW bass and there are holes but they are so crooked I'd have to drill new holes-- it came that way.

You can't build a perfect house.

One of the better thing about these Forums is, there are a lot of guys out there that are more warped and twisted than I am. I always thought I was way out there when it came to having everything right.

Please don't misunderstand what I just said. I'm just as bad. Seems bass players all share a few things in common

Who really cares? If you're happy with the way it sounds and you're satisfied, that's all that matters.

Now back to the real world, I recently bought a used Jazz Bass. It has the tiniest nick in the word on the back of the neck at the third fret, bugs the hell out of me.

Yeah, we're nuts. guitar players and drummers could care less.

We all kind of know that after CBS took over Fender there were allot of Quality Control issues going on for a long time. The first I noticed the Quality being good again was in the late 90's. I imagine it started getting better before that though. But that was just how long I went before I bought a brand new Fender bass. That was my first brand new one actually. WOW!!!! I hadn't thought of that for awhile. 98 P Deluxe Sunburst with rosewood fb. , abalone inlays, chrome logo, light tuners, active. SWEET!!
