Hey! Im new to this forum and im trying to learn more about my instrument. Since i am starting to play gigs i want to try to be more of a professional. I have a standard mexican P bass with a bad $@! II bridge. I normally play with Ernie Ball super slinky strings gauged 45-65-80-100, so my bass is set up for those. However a bassist friend of mine suggested i try out power slinky strings gauged 55-75-90-110 since the music i perform falls on the slightly aggressive side of music, and they offer a bit more "bang for your buck." Every time i feel like i need a set up, ive always brought it to someone to do it for me, but this time id like to give it a go myself. Can anyone suggest a good source so i can learn to set up my bass on my own with thicker guaged strings? Im aware there are proper specifications to follow i just do not know where i can find them. Thanks!

I've posted links to numerous do-it-yourself guides on my bass player's resource page.
Go to the website in my post signature BELOW by just clicking on the website link in my signature. Then just scroll down and then click on "DO IT YOURSELF SETUP AND MAINTENANCE" to find many links relating to setting up basses. In addition to a link to the Fender setup guide, also have a look at the one by Gary Willis as it has some very helpful info like a great method for adjusting truss rod and is a great resource!

I've always used this for help. It's not much but it got me started. A search on google would get you some good results as well.

EDIT: I see Brother Dave beat me to it regarding Gary Willis, haha.
