Hello everyone.

I'm now the proud owner of a re-issued '51 Fender P-Bass.

Shortly after purchasing it, I ordered pickup and bridge covers purely for the sake of aesthetics and to give it a more "authentic" look.

One thing I've noticed after I made my order was that the older style Fender's pickup covers are shaped a little differently. I seem to have ordered the a "newer" vintage cover. Will I be able to still mount it to my bass? Or am I completely SOL?

Here is the bass, as well, the bridge and pick up cover I ordered.

Hi there, welcome to the Forums!!!
If you have a Mike Dirnt sig, he has a BadAss II, IIRC, the bridge cover doesn't fit correctly with that bridge. Also the pup you have is the split P pup, the Tele bass originally had the single coil pup. That can be the problem, is that you have the Mike Dirnt. It is a nice bass tho!

I forgot to mention, I haven't received my ordered parts yet.

So you're saying I'll have trouble with the bridge cover but not the pickup cover?

Well, if I had to choose one over the other, I'd prefer the pup cover, but I did go to the trouble of ordering both. I hope I'll be able to at least mount the cover for the pickups.

With regards to that bridge cover, you figure I won't be able to mount it on the bass?

The pup cover should be ok, cuz you see PBasses with those pup covers. I would ck w/Brotherdave. Find a thread with him involved. On his sig, you would see a link. Email him off the link, he'll get back to you. He should be able to give you the answer. Good luck!

Both 2nd Generation covers won't work on a Mike Dirnt. The pickup cover might, depending on pickguard shape, but would still look out of place. That is a 1st Generation body and looks more authentic with 1st Generation covers. Also the 1st Generation bridge cover will BARELY completely cover the BAII bridge. You may have just a glimpse of it being visible at certain angles. Where I messed up my '51 was first installing the bridge cover with the original bridge, then putting a BAIII on it a few months later. You can see a tiny bit of the bridge poking out from under the cover, but if I move the cover it would barely cover the whole thing. Hope that helps.

Anyway, I would go ahead and get the 51 P-Bass covers for it. I think you'll be much happier with the outcome and they aren't but about $26. Sell off the others or save for a future project. I would not install a 2nd Generation cover on a 1st Generation design. Even if it fits, it just won't look authentic at all.
