I am thinking about purchasing a '66 P-bass neck and putting it on a Road Worn body...
I assume it should fit....right??
Also, can I assume that the vintage style tuners from the 50's Road Worn will fit the '66 head stock... :D
I value any and all opinions......

Welcome.

Yes, the neck will fit. As to the tuners, their dimensions may be slightly off from that of the originals as they are now imported.

Technically It should, but the Mex made body usually are'nt the tightest fitting pockets, the screw holes will for the most part line up but may not be snug on either side or even both.
I swapped necks for a friend on a pair of Japanese basses, one neck from a p-bass contemporary series(the no pickgaurd jammies from the 80's)to a Jazz special from the same series and had to do some sanding to get the neck to fit,was it a case of too much finish ? sloppy routing ? after sanding is done its always a great fit,I prefer to sand the neck down to get a snug fit,but thats more often the case with a new neck, used necks usually plop right in.
Its a gamble but even if its not perfect it should be OK, are you anal about your bass having to be perfect ? me I would go nuts if it was a sloppy fit,but I am not sought after bassist.so no-one other than me cares about sustain, action, tone ETC...on my bass(even a yucky pickgaurd must go,even if its only for my eyes only, unless a vintage peiece then its cool)

Did I mention that while visiting a buddy who works at a local music store that stocks the Roadworn model that it was shown to me that the "distressing"is all done on a machine,Now this did'nt sound all that big a deal but when I saw that all the basses had the exact SAME wear marks all in the exact SAME way and all the bumps and scratches in all the exact SAME places,we held up all the basses side by side and compaired the wear and tear marks and it was perfectely the same in every single way.
I thought for the price they were charging for a Mexican made bass(and the R.W. guitars are also done in the same manner)they would be a little more unique, the quality seems Ok as far as I can tell but the fact they all have the exact same wear patterns and "distressing"of the hardware and plastic parts really disappoints me,even the back of the neck is of cookie cutter appearence,NOT TO COOL. :(

I've been on the bass since Nawg ( fertile crescent cave dweller) invented it.
I don't care what anyone says- My Roadworn Precision bass is a great guitar. It just does the job exactly how I want it to. I DID replace the pickup with a pickup of my choice. The Road is light, it rings out, it has more balanced bottom end and even tone through-out than most basses I've owned ( over 50). I don't care if a machine or Chico put the dents on it. I have bumped it and in playing it- am adding my own road scratches etc. The neck fit is exact, the strings line up over the poles on the pickup, it has sustain for days and is loud, resonant and sounds alot like a true vintage bass. I have played vintage basses. For the money it can't be beat. I would not be suprised one bit if an old vintage neck and tuners can be interchanged on it. If I had the nuts I'd go take my 72 Jazz or my 74 P bass neck off and put it on the Roadworn and see. But I'm fat from dinner and lazy right now. Plus I drank too much the other night and that is something I hardly ever do. It has even effected my speling.
I give 3 thumbs up to my Fendr Roadworn Precision Bass (like the fish) Guitar.
There is the small chance that I have the best one they ever made. I've owned several MIM guitars and they do not compare to the RW bass I have. I'm going to now go to Fender Customer Service and ask for a job.

The basses themselves are pretty well made,I was'nt knocking the quality of the fit and finish along with its sound but was disappointed that trhey ALL had the same distressing(aging)top to bottom,MIM basses have gotten better over the last 10 yrs,I had the 60's classic bass,it looked fantastic without the pickgaurd(ala Jaco)but the neck had 6 high frets down by the pocket,I didnt want to pull the frets and level the rosewood and leveling down the frets was'nt an option due to the height was to much to plane off,so I traded it in after Fender told me there was a 9 month waiting list or a warrenty neck,so they gave me a store credit where I worked and had bought it,I was sad,it sounded and looked killer(and this was'nt the first Fender bass that I got a neck that was "beyond reasonable repair" which means repairing it would cost them more than just giving me a new neck, either way I win

Yeah- I've filed frets on a few of my USA Fenders. Usually down near the heel. I've also shimmed the necks on a few- usually older ones (70's). The biggest thing with the MIM's for me was fret ends-- and I've filed more than a few of those. The other big thing is that I have not liked any Mex pickup I've had. Even a few Japan pickups weren't to my taste.

Lots of things come into play on the necks-- I had a 66-69 P bass that before I bought it had hung in a pawn shop for about 5 or more years with all the strings loose except for the g string. The neck actually warped long ways -- like the letter "C". It was enough to make the G too close to the edge of the neck. I did all kinds of stuff to try and make it better but didn't clamp it for a year like maybe I could have. I'm not positive that the G pulled it crooked but it sure does seem like it. The fret board on the bass was real thin and radiused to the neck . That and temp and humidity change may have all played a part in that.

I guess with as big a company as Fender is-- they probubly have a months' long waiting list on everything. I've never dealt with Fender outside of buying their guitars and I a couple times I wrote to them to get some questions answered. They don't return any emails that I have written to them though.
