I like the Honey Blonde finish a lot. I like the Hwy 1 too, best bargain out there I think.

I have a first generation, 2004/5 Highway 1 Jazz Bass in honey blonde, which I LOVE! I honestly bought it after breaking a string at a show one night and realizing I needed a backup to my 1979 Ric 4001. It eventually became my main bass. I'd owned a Squier MIJ Jazz and a Fender MIM Jazz before for a brief period here and there, and though I rather liked how they felt and a lot of the tone, there was something or other I didn't like about them, mostly reliability. I remembered playing on that Hwy 1 in a local shop a few weeks prior while there on some other errand, so the day after the show I went out there and offered them $600 for it. I'm all about vintage and never thought I'd buy a brand new bass, but I seriously LOVE my bass. Six years later, my only problem is that I'm thinking I need a new nut, otherwise it still delivers every time, has never broken a string and the noticeable age and wear to the finish is fantastic.

How many frets is your JBS Sabre?

I played a few of them, I just love the nitro finish in Honey Blonde. I've not own a P bass since '93 - sold a standard that I bought used - and I'm itching for the wide neck again ;)

Only 20....
That's why I have trouble leaving my 78 Musicman at home...
I actually use that 21st fret quite a bit.

I just got all the components I need to make my new Fender P-Franken-Bass which will have a Warmouth Jazz neck with block inlays and pearloid binding.... I could live without the groovy binding, but I really need that 21st fret.

I got 22 on mine. Warmoth necks are very nice. Show us pix when you get your project done!!

I think it's you stalking the bass and I don't mean the one in the pond.

How do those Warmoth necks feel when compared to stock Fender necks?

It's suppose to be better built, more technology in it. Feel is subjective. There are so many configuration you can get with Warmoth. Different types of wood, etc. I've only played one Warmoth a long time a go. Ebony fretboard, maple neck. Very, very nice, really dark wood, beautiful!

Now I'm jealous...

I think the neck weighs more than the body.
Between that and the Badass2, it's going to be a sustain monster.
I may have to find a few ways to load something heavy under the pickguard so it's not neck heavy... :)

My schedule is pretty hectic for about the next 3 weeks,
so it will be a slow build as time allows...
Right now, all I have are pictures of the parts. :)

Don't be jealous, it's a stock MIJ neck. It's solid. back in the '90s I had issues trying to adjust the neck - more had to do with ignorance, keeping the bass in the humid basement while I was in college :?
What kind of pup are you putting in? With EMG or Seymour Duncan now being solderless, it should be painless huh 8)
Well, keep us posted man, I'm thinking of getting a nice body for my '99 just slapping the neck and all the electronics (EMG) on it, maybe getting a rear route too - I'm not a big fan of pick guards ;)

I like my MIJ JBS's neck, except for the fact that it only has 20 frets...
It plays fast and smooth.

I'm going to be putting SPB-3s in it and using the Fender TBX tone pot... I get a good tone with that from my MIJ...

Seymour Duncan is solderless???
Since when?
I have been too buried in work...
I must have missed something.

Maybe not the whole line like EMG, but SD has solderless pups.

The tone of my MIJ was always good. SPB 3 is a great pup. I'll look it up who else has the solderless, could've sworn it was SD.

Not sure the other brand, but this is EMG's soderless:

http://www.emgpickups.com/products/category/2/2

My '99 is totally solderless, everything is plug and play. Those are all the electronics right?

That Warmoth neck is gorgeous - how much if you don't mind me asking? My dream neck came out to $550  And I didn't order it of course...hahahahaha...

Whoa! That's COOL!
I'm a network engineer (read professional computer geek), and I can certainly appreciate those connections! (I've been doing them for over 20 years. I hope I live long enough to build many basses from electronics like that!

My vol and TBX pots can't do that.

PowerJazzBass wrote:

WAY COOL!!!
Solderless pots and jack too?

I picked it up "gently used" on E-Bay for $280 after shipping.... It's like a $600 neck... If I didn't get that, I was going to go for a no frills Warmouth maple 51 (Tele) style neck with black dots, 2360 stainless frets and a bone nut for about $350.... (although I would have preferred a brass nut.)

Quite frankly, my favorite basses are pretty "broken-in", and my 2 best have some pretty moderate fret wear, so I had no qualms about this one for the money... I'm a sucker for block inlays.

Yeah, that neck is just gorgeous!! I like graphite nut...personal preference I guess :) Yours for $280 and it's a $600 neck, you got a great bargain! Which is WIN! It has binding, and square blocks...beauty! Is it Abalone?

To answer your question about the SPB 3, I've heard, not played, but it sounded full. Really fat tone. I liked it a lot.

The jack is solderless too

I have to thank Steve Harris for that tip....
I was a Rotosound round wound guy for the last 30 years,
but I don't slap or pop, and I have a very aggressive finger style when required (Think Geezer), so I don't require a ton of mids... I control the tone with my fingers.

I read that in Bass Player mag a few years back - Arry happens to be the man that got me into bass playing 8)

Thanks for the info on the solderless stuff!

Anytime man, that's what we do here, help each other out - although some people like to just pick on you (ahem *Ox* ahem  )

Here's the info on the SD stuff, not sure if any bass stuff yet: http://www.seymourduncan.com/liberator/

I think SD is guitar only for now.

In MY day, we hated flatwounds... Boy were we dumb! :)

I don't even want to talk about the abuse that the round-wounds
did to the frets on my 78 Sabre over the last 30+ years. :)

Harris got you into playing?
You must be a young'un... :)

My first influence was the guy that got Harris playing...
"Geezer" :)

Harris didn't come out on the first album until I was like
16 or 17... (And I only liked their first 2 albums).

(In fact, both you guys should look me up on FB.. I need more bass friends... I've been hanging with too many of those 6-string guys and drummers.) :)

Have a good evening!

I like stainless steel rounds, the flats don't do it for me, Steve Harris sig bass strings are flats too. I saw Steve Harris on the Live After Death Live video, and I said, "that's what I wanna do!!!"
What name are you under on FB?
