I'm going to launch my G.A.s. Support Group. I tried to get an expert but, he's too busy.

When you feel the uncontrollable urge to buy, sing the National Anthem backwards.

In all seriousness tho guys, what is it about us bass players and G-A-S? I know MANY MANY guitar players, and they dont seem to get it half as bad as we do.

I wrote a long entry in the thread 'what amp do you use with your pbass' which is a pretty good example of how bad my GAS can get.........

I NEED HELP!!!!!!!! :!:

I hope this isn't a double post, but I didn't see it show up, so I'll ask again....

Although I know it's meaning in context, what exactly does the acronym "GAS" stand for? :?

G-A-S = Gear Acquisition Syndrome

The unrelenting need to purchase musical instruments/equipment/accessories!

I'm too much of a tightwad to suffer from that very much. :)

Although I DID just recently purchase all the parts I needed for my new project bass... I could have bought a new MIM P-Bass and a new amp for that much money now that I think about it....

When I'm done, it better be the very best bass I've ever played, or I'm going to cry.

I had a go at building a Pbass once - but I got impatient - ended up buying some sub-standard parts and rushing it too much. I was a fool!

Hope you have more patience than me and it works out for you! All the best matey!

I ended up putting about $800 into the parts, when all was said and done...
(And I actually got excellent deals on everything.. Never came even close to retail prices... Got them all off e-bay... Mostly by sniping auctions.)

I only work on it when I'm going to have enough uninterrupted time to complete a specific task...

So far, the Badass2 and ground wire and SPB-3s are installed...
It might be done in a week or 2 at the rate I'm going... Maybe longer... Been busy with work and other things...

Like I said, I'm very patient. I know what can happen if I rush things, and I have too much into it already, so it will have to be a labor of love.

Thanks for the best wishes....
(I'll need them!) :)

Have you been taking pics as you go along? Would make a nice thread! If not I hope you post a pic of the finished Bass when you're done...

Addressing the issues last to first.

Don't worry Sabre, it will be alright. Your anxiety concerning your upgrade is actually a form of G.A.S., you obviously have it.

While we as bass guitarists all suffer from it, six stringers have ADD, there are those who have severe cases and influence others (gbass, we know who you are) and cause their G.A.S. to consume them,

It's o.k. Bob, eat your salad

G.A.S. comes in various strains, Fuzz, you are obviously on the verge of an outrageous episode, with the value of you currency rising and prices dropping, the "thirst" will soon take you. It's alright, it doesn't make you a bad person.

In conclusion, we all need to realize that our condition is permanent, can strike at any time and is nothing to be ashamed of. We can maintain a normal life and function well in society, yeah like I really believe that!

Sabre, the rule here is, if you throw something out you have to explain it.

What did you think G.A.S. mean?

Rez, I didn't forget about your straps.

Zod , picture please!

Hello, My name is Don and I'm a bass player.....

Hi Don

It all started out with a 45 rpm record my grandmother purchased for me and before you knew it I was hooked...... :)

Now I have more basses than one person can play, make more noise than most people should and talk absolute gibberish to non-musicians.

....and I like it like it yes I do........I like it........I like it.......(that's a Rolling Stones impression for those younger players).....

There's only one thing worse than GAS....

....and that's the dreaded "Stage GAS", especially for drummers, keyboard players and sometimes bass players who can't move away.

It can some times lead to the banning of drinking beer during a performance or serious reprisals of a very unexpected nature.....

:D

Hello Don,

First of all, you're among friends here, and we're all proud of your admitting that you suffer from G.A.S.

It's nothing to be ashamed of, and it doesn't make you a bad person, we all deal with it.

G.A.S. ans strike at any time, you have no way of knowing and no defense. While we've all tried different things to combat it, it's a personal matter for you.

I'm working on an 800 number, I'll let ewveryone know of my progress.

Be strong brother, you've made great strides in your recovery (yeah, right  ) You'll be O.K. ( ) With the progress you've shown, you'll have this thing licked in no time at all.
(Probably on the phone right now ordering something ( :D ).

Enjoy those salads! Just don't eat the greens from off the washing machine, you should be good.

Actually, Ron (Oxfan) and I have communicated a lot via email, and it turns out we have a great deal in common...if we were neighbors, we'd probably get along really well, with one possible exception.....

You both would be yelling at each other to "Get off my lawn!"

I wouldn't yell at Bob, I'd let his wife extend her garden. Less grass to cut.

Did you get more dressing?

That's awesome! Not only are you an early riser, you're a smart shopper. Did you think to pick up croutons?

I'm up at all hours, the way my schedule is, it's getting harder and harder to adjust to changing shifts. What used to be 24 to 36 hours, now is days. Went to bed somewhere around 2:30 and was up with you earlybirds . I did go back to bed. This sucks.

I definitely have to use headphones, if I didn't shed skip the salad, forego the knitting needles and beat me to death with one her big Emeril skillets. Ican be playing pretty much any hour of the day or night.
