Hi everyone. I'm a long time drummer who has always wanted to learn the better half of the rhythmic team. I just bought a '89 $@! made precison bass. Any words of wisdom about my bass or technique? I studied percussion at university so have a good handle on theory so that will help.

Good basses. Pretty basic, good workhorse! What amp are you going thru?

**Nice Zod**

Good question what kind of amp would be a good overall choice? I'd rather just go with one inegrated amp. Small enough not to break my back but large enough to power over the kit and use in small to medium sized rooms.

Nowadays, you can get a combo that's just as powerful as the old stackers...A lot of the combos are heavy, not too savvy with the new stuff as far as lightweight rigs, but lots in here can help you out. Not sure where you are, but go to a music store and try out all sorts or different amps...small stores would have nice bargains on old classic gear :)
Have fun out there man! Keep us posted.

Welcome to P-Bass land. It is a friendly place. Much more friendly than J-Bass land. Anyway. It is a LITTLE KNOWN FACT that I am...or was...a damn good drummer. Rhythm and bass LIVE together in the SAME HOUSE. My brother is a better drummer than I am...but that poor MOFO is tone deaf.

Thanks for the tip. I'll scout around this form and the internet to see what is out there. I was thinking something like the line 6 line that have those integrated sounds. .As I get better then maybe I can dial in the bass sound to fit the song. That's one reason I got the P bass. Nice and simple. I thought it was a good platform to start from. It feels good to be on bass and if anything helps me be a better drummer. Besides I'm tired of looking at all those "behinds" on stage

Hi, and welcome to P bass forum.

Brotherdave's website is a great source of information, and if you drop him an email he is very knowledgeable, and, also very nice. He would probably be willing to help you with any questions you may have regarding bass issues.

IMHO, an amp is a personal thing. Most people probably tend to over-do it, thinking that more power makes a better amp. It depends on what tone you are looking for, and what you use it for, but sometime a smaller amp is a good start, as long as it has a good speaker. Even after you decide you need a bigger amp for the mix, you can always still use your small amp in your bedroom. The link below has a good range of little practice amps with a headphone jack, if that helps.

Those Line 6's are excellent practice amps, plus there's many of them on the used market.

If you are an mp3/iPod user, and intend to practice primarily through headphones (I do), these are invaluable:

I'm blessed to have a ton of gear around the house, but my little Vox friend gets a lot of use as it keeps peace in the house, and keeps me company on the road and in hotels rooms. :D

Welcome to the club, and best of luck.

Thanks everyone for their input. I have been looking and so far the Gallien-Krueger MB112 seems to be the one. 200 watts of power with a 12 inch speaker should do most of what I'll need. The real seller for me is the weight (28 lbs.), compact size, good reviews and price.
