The reason why I'm posting this is, Fender Japan did make a very good version of a early 70's P-bass with olympic white body. It did have a rosewood neck, with those "cloveleaf" tuners, and the 70's decal. Now, i do understand that there is an agreement between Fender USA, Fender Japan, and Fender mexico. Certain models can't be made by fender mexico, because it will violate certain trade agreements. Is this correct? Then , if this is the case, isn't Fender Mexico making a 60's P-bass now? See, i got small hands, and those 50's models, and certain 60's model P-bass have those, 1.725 widths to them, which makes them too large for me.There was a time, back when Fender was still in Fullerton, that from 1969, to 1983, the "B" neck was opitional. Then in the late 80's, that large neck came back. That's when, I changed to Musicman for a while, because their necks had a 1.625 width to them, but i didn't care for their active electronics thou. Anyway, with all these reissues, i must admit, they're very good and accurate. Now I seen the custom shops 1970 Jazz bass, and it's missing those cloveleaf tuners, and I wonder why. The Jazz bass didn't go to thses smaller keys until 1975 or 1976. As a matter of fact , Marcus Miller, changed his keys, to those reverse cloveleaf tuners. It's something about a Fender bass without those big keys on it. Made it look like a bass! Maybe these little ones may work better, but so did the early CBS cloveleaf ones worked good too, and in the opposite direction.

The lack of a US available 70's RI P bass has been a sore spot for me for years. (Yes the CIJ version is killer, A width P neck btw 1.5"). I would hope that Fender would either see the error of their ways and how much money they are throwing away by not importing that model P bass or by not putting out an AVS 78' P bass RI, and correct that oversite. Do I think it'll happen? Who knows. Maybe if enough of us clamor for it. FWIW, the 51RI and Sting P basses have the appropriate B width P necks and are absolutely to die for. I don't care where the bass is made, I just want to see a 70's P...with the quality of all three plants now, it really doesn't matter where you buy your P bass...it's probbly gonna kick serious tail.
