If anyone can help me ID the specs on my 82-85 P-bass, s/n E 3191xx I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks, this is a great forum, and I dig Fender guitars! :P

Exactly what specs? Do you mean measure or type parts or what the serial number reads?

Well I owned a 1983 Precision Bass that I sold to a student and I remember its specs as:

Single ply white pickguard, white pickup covers to match the pickguard, the bridge was attached to the body with only three screws, The bridge saddles were threaded in the center. The necks had a soft V profile, the tuners were an upgraded Schaller with a partial cover on the back. Truss rod adjustment moved to the headstock and the truss rod was the new bi-flex rod that adjusted with an allen wrench through a hole in a walnut plug in the headstock. Body thickness and profile was infuenced by the 62 reissue P-bass in that the body contours were more extreme than those on the 1980 Precision Bass.

My bass was black with the most figured flame maple neck that I had ever seen.

That's about all that I can remember.

Thanks BC Bassman, for your input.

Sounds reasonably close, but this one has a modern flat oval neck. I wonder what the radius is, feels very flat like a 12". The gears are partially covered and stamped with the F logo, could be Schaller? The bridge saddle's on this one are offset.

I saw some posts that the Fender people actually looked up the guitar by the serial number, and gave exact info. to the person inquiring. I was kind of hoping I may get that type of input. But, if not, hey- I will take what I can find.

Thanks so much-

How much would an 83 P bass be worth right now? The standard model like described above with one ply guard etc.

Worth is based on demand and condition of the bass in your area of the world.

This is a very General statement:
If you live in new York City or LA you will be paying more for USED Fenders, due to higher demand. New Fenders may be less that in a small town, but everybody has the internet so new prices are being leveled off due to its influence.

The condition of the bass will greatly affect the price. Does it have it's original finish and parts? Anything that was changed like that Bad A* SS bridge and Basslines pickup will negatively affect the price. Originality is key for any collector interest.

Does the bass play well? OR can a player play the bass without getting frustrated?
The frets are in good shape, no hacked up pickup cavities with stupid control mods, the controls work as intended and no grounding issues.
If all of this is true-
Then you have good bass that will attract players instead of collectors.

Good luck with it.
