"So, you asked why Ox go thru agony to go to GC, and yet you still go there?[/quote]

Yes, I still go there, but they don't get my money. I thought I explained in my first post why I go there. I can play a new model guitar, if they actually have it in stock, and if I like it I buy it somewhere else. Luckily, there are independent stores wihin a reasonable distance, GC just happens to be the closest. The difference for me is that GC is a testing ground and the independents ALWAYS beat GC's prices. So as not to wear anyone's patience, I won't go on about my past experiences with GC. It's not a GC hate post, it's just an opinion based on my experiences with them. Isn't it ok that I prefer to spend my money at an independent retailer?

If you have ever read any other post, you'll see my rant about not spending money on GC or SA, just my choice to spend it locally. But I live in a country where people can do what they want with their hard earned cash. So like you, I spend it on the local mom/pop store before GC. Actually, I've not been in GC for about 2 yrs now. No need for me to go there...altho Ox is twisting my arm to test the Am Spc, and none of the local can get any new Fenders in till fall here.

Most of the small music stores around where I live do not carry extra long Rotosound strings so I have to drive the 30 miles. It seems they can't meet the purchase quota of the distributor.

I think some of the best deals on guitars are on craigslist. I've had good purchases at GS and SA and I've had not so good at both.

In the small stores you can get to know the people and they know what you like. They'll check out your band on facebook and things like that.

The turn over with employees at the big stores makes getting to know anyone (for me) not happening. They treat me like I don't know squat. For all they know - I don't know squat. But I do know squat and I call him by his first name. ( that's a joke son)!!!!!

It's unfortunate that trying to say what we mean sometimes comes out as if we are judgemental or angry. Rez has had that same opinion for about the three years I've been reading his posts. He has never deviated from his stand of buying local. Would I buy another bass or amp from GC, maybe, if I were in the buying mode this past Saturday, I'd be the proud owner of a new American Standard Precision, the two I played were that nice. Down to the plastic on the tuners and pickguard. Beautiful basses set up well too.

Before we let ourselves get worked up over a comment, ask for more explanation, if you don't, I'll tell Zod.

Not worked up. Even though I signed up a few years ago on the forum, I haven't been on it for quite some time, at least 18 months, probably longer. If I had been on more often, I'm sure I would have known what everyone's stance was on where to buy music equipment. I wasn't trying to be a $@!&*. I was merely trying to give my opinion and explain why I go (or don't go) to GC, since it was asked of me. If it came across as anything other than that, I apologize. It was not my intention to be antagonistic. I don't belittle anyone for shopping anywhere, including GC. But please do me a favor, if it sounds like I haven't read anyone's past comments and I don't have a flavor for what their ongoing opinions have been, give me a break and fill me in. It will be much faster for the new guy (that's me) to hear it directly versus going back and reading every post on this forum to try to figure out where people stand on certain issues. Thanks!

Now that's exactly what I was talking about. Caring, compassion, thinking of other people. This was the first time anyone mentioned the rapper thing. I'm sure it was a touchy subject, kind of like Rez with the dress thing (we don't talk about that anymore).

Yes it's been hard, what can you do? Kids grow up and make choices, sigh.

Isn't everyone under the age of 25 a "Rapper" with a crew and recording deal?

You're probably right, I can only hope it's going to happen, then I'll rest easier knowing they have some security.

Hey, I've not been on for awhile...no harm no foul, the problem with this thing, even w/emoticon, it can be read however the reader wants it to be. It was a question I asked out of curiosity not to be a $%@!. No biggie. Like someone said, it's a discussion forum right. Another thing, some people are friends here with certain people, so we know each other better than others.

Understood! I hope that I can stay on here consistantly so that I can make friends too. At least long enough to get to know the general feelings of certain people on the forum. It is our commonality, bass guitars, that brings us together. As time goes on, you will see that I have a dry sense of humor at times. It usually gets me in trouble. But, cest la vie! I'm glad to be here to share ideas and I know I'll ask my share of questions. Thanks for having me!

One point of clarification on my lack of patience for GC hate threads: I was really referring to the threads on *other* forums that degrade into pointless rants by posters who are likely the same age as the GC employees that supposedly did not cater to their unreasonable expectations. Inevitably, the threads degrade into a contest of who's received the worst treatment by a GC in history.

I certainly didn't mean to chill any conversation regarding GC here. We all seem on this forum to have enough command of (and decorum with) the English language to post our experiences as we see them - which is why I check in here.

For the record: I absolutely-positively shop local independents first.

I have a background on the factory side, and have maintained both independent dealer networks and big-box accounts. Both have their place, but I'll always fight for the independent.

I apologize if my comments were taken the wrong way - they were not intended at anybody in particular here. Meanwhile - carry on!

-Tim
