My other son-in-law, who is a rapper, wants to go to GC tomorrow, I'll have a whole new adventure to share. Anyone looking for anything special?

I'm just wondering if Specials are Road Worns that haven't been dragged behind a bus.

Ugh! Why put yourself through the agony of going to GC? I'm not a big fan of theirs anymore. I used to be, but not since the investor group bought them out about 3 years ago. But I still go there to play a guitar or amp I may be interested in buying. Of course, if I like the way it plays, I buy it somewhere else. In any event, enjoy the field trip!

So where do you suggest going?

GC is pretty much the only game in town for me, especially if you want to buy Fender. My last purchases have been made at MF.

So, you asked why Ox go thru agony to go to GC, and yet you still go there?

Like Brother Dave said, where else can you go? There are so few music stores that carry anything decent.

GC hate threads test my patience. I support my local music store as much as I can, but my local GC comes in handy. I've made friends with the managers, and they treat me well. They each have their place.

This is by no means a hate thread. I use G when needed. In my area there are no other options that are viable without making plans for the whole day allowing for travel time.

I just got home from GC and am going to post a new thread about my visit.

That's cool. I know over on the Music Man forum, some of the GC staff actually respond to issues that are posted.

I won't buy anything there. I'm lucky to have a decent local music store tho. Plus with the 3 in town, I don't have to travel 30 miles to GC. I know most people aren't so fortunate.

The same corporation owns MF and GC and others.

True:

Hard to believe MF was purchased for only $50M in 2000. MF must have been in trouble after the Internet/NASDAQ bust. I had a lot of Silicon Valley clients disappear in that time frame.

The keyboard my son-in-law bought was the last one they had (display model) no problem other than it didn't have a box. I hate that about Guitar Center, they throw everything away including allen wrenches. He asked about the drivers and they said they would load automatically. We took it home and the drivers wouldn't load, just got a message , drivers didn't load properly, blah, blah, blah.

He took it back and they called the manufacturer, they said there was a driver on a disc. They are sending him a complete, brand new one to his home, no additional charges. Worked out well.

As far as basses, three years ago when I bought my FSR Precision, they had a FSR Jazz there, the salesman said they had it sent out three times, for different problems, over the years I've seen it hanging in different places, the ash in very unique on it. Yesterday, there it was, hanging on the top row waiting for some sucker, full price $599.

The caveat emptor applies, let the buyer beware.

Ouch...holy crap?! That's horrible. I bet you're glad you didn't buy that one...what can possibly be that hard to fix? by the manufacturer I mean.

It was weird, the first time I saw it the tone knob was gone, I thought someone stole it, the salesman said they kept falling off. I wonder about the little stickers you find on some of the basses. on cars, inspectors put marks and stickers on vehicle to point out what needs to be corrected before they sip.

I think there are "seconds" that go out and are sold as prime, just a thought.
