Are the side dots on a Tony Franklin fretless P-bass positioned where the frets would be, or between them like they'd be on a fretted instrument?

I don't know specifically about the Tony Franklin, but my guess would be the dots are where the fret markers would be if the fretboard is unlined, as is usually the case with other fretless basses. Maybe you can find some closeups on the Internet or old eBay listings?

The side markers on a Tony Franklin bass and all original fretless Fender basses that don't have fret lines, are where the FRETS would be, not where the side markers are on a fretted bass neck.

If you have a Fender bass and a fretless, a side by side comparison will make this very obvious.

This is very important to understand as you play the bass.
