I have a Precision Special Deluxe and I am thinking about switching pickups. I think I am leaning towards the EMG PJX set. I am also considering Seymour Duncan's SPB-3 and SJB-3. I personally like very heavy bass, less mids, mid treble. Any ideas, tips, suggestions?

If you Youtube the JVX, the Bass Whisperer has one for Bass Player mag review. I'm partial to EMG's due to the music I play, it's heavy where I need it when I flatten the tone, gives me the highs when I add tone. Plus, that's what I have on my basses. The Quarterpounders I don't know. Zod had the QP's I think, and he took 'em out and added DiMarzios to his Am Std. Good luck man.

Now that I think about it, I need to have my Elite re-fretted. I reckon I should get that done first. She's my main axe. Just worried about that costing an arm and a leg. I'll do the pickup swap. The hardest part of that will be cutting out a battery compartment. I'm quite fond of active pickups.

Instead of cutting hide it under the pg...no cutting, just make sure you have it tight it there so it won't rattle. With my '87 it had a battery cavity already - it was an active electronic bass originally - the '99 tho had to put it under the control plate, and man it's tight. I would refret the other bass first tho before doing the p/u swap.
