Also - Is anyone here using the Lakland Skyline bass - which was patterned after Mr. Dunn's Fender Signature Series P-Bass ??

These basses no longer carry Donald's signature. They got a new name: 44-64 Custom.

Available in US-Made and Skyline versions.

Yes it is #0046.It has a few dings on it and the tone pot is bent a little and it needs a realy good cleaning, other than that good bass.

I understand that 200 were made/imported but I could not get a confirmation on this. Anybody know?

It is said there are 200 made in 1998. The numbers are stamped on the back of the headstock. So, it was a very limited run. I've only ever seen 3 in person. Including those three and the ones I've ran across on eBay, etc...I've never seen one stamped higher than 187. They have one of the prettiest Candy Apple Red finishes I've ever seen, a USA Fender '62 pickup, a vintage correct threaded bridge, Schaller/Fender strap locks, a gold anodized aluminum pickguard and for some reason standard modern style tuners (probably made by Gotoh) instead of the reverse Klusons that were on Duck's real '58's. (He bought two '58's. One CAR and one sunburst.)

However, tone-wise the two Ducks that I've actually played were not exactly tone monsters but played really good. They look like a '58 but don't have the same sound. I've heard of someone putting a Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickup in one and still not getting the '58 tone. Don't understand what the problem would be that would cause that.

I don't know for sure what value pots or cap they have, might be 500k instead of 250k pots and might be a 0.10 instead of 0.05 cap. I see the 500k pots a lot on Asian basses that would sound better with 250k pots. It probably has the green chicklet .05 cap and a .05 ceramic would give it more bite or a .047 Vitamin-Q would warm it up. HOWEVER, on such a limited short run bass I would NEVER suggest changing so much as one screw...or adding ANYTHING either. Leave it stock.

When buying one, be sure to get the part of the strap lock that attaches to the strap in the deal, or you will have to buy a set of Schaller/Fender strap locks separately just to keep the strap on it.

You'll have to buy the strap locks.
