Hello there all. I'm new here and have been through all the topics, but cannot seem to find a definitive guide to vintage Precision bass knobs with detailed pictures (including the bottoms). Would anyone know where such a resource exists? Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. I do not know of such a resource. However it would be a fun project.

If it helps, the original P-Bass knobs were chrome plated steel and pretty hefty. The knurling was very severe for lack of a better word and it had a very rough feel to it so you could grip it easily. They had a domed top but there was a small plateau at the peak of the dome until the mid 50's, about 1955 the plateau disappeared and the dome was completely rounded. 1955 was the last year for "domed" P-Bass knobs.

In 1956 the much lighter weight "flattop" knobs appeared which were way lighter and had less severe knurling and the top edges of the knobs were somewhat rounded off, or you might say they were stepped slightly. These knobs were used until 1960. In 1961 the top edges of the knobs became pretty much a perfect 90 degrees as there was very little rounding at all and these "flattop" knobs were used for a very long time, into the 70's.
