+1 on the SD QP. I most associate that sound with Mike Dirnt. Another option is the DiMarzio Model P, heard on many rock albums. I have on in my P. Beyond that, you'll need to go active, such as EMG.

I think the SD SPB2 is hotter than the SD SPB3 isn't it? The larger pole pieces on the SPB3 "Quarter-Pounder" give it improved sensitivity though. I love my SCPB3 very much and I play that bass live the most because it sounds amazing. But I think the output on the SD SPB2 is supposed to be hotter. Hotter is not necessarily better because the more you overwind a pickup to make it louder the less highs it will have.
