Mastermold...You are absolutley correct. I have no problem with my P Bass necks as I started out only playing my P Basses for years. It is now a matter of the feel and sound I want for a particular tune that dictates which bass I use.

+1 Yeah that's how I am too with mine. But you'd be surprised how many Jazz bass players think they "can't" play a P-bass. Maybe they tried it at a store or whatever, but that's not enough.

I own both.

They are both great bass models and each has its own voice.

I started on P bass in around 1972- bought my first Jazz in 1999. Wow- I didn't realize I played a P that long. I've had maybe 10 or 15 or so of each , probubly more. I just dig Fender basses.

I have a '76 P, a '62 reissue J and a five string P.

I got the five string because a spell of gas hit me and I had to have it. It was like learning an entirely new instrument, at least for me it was. Someone earlier mentioned muscle memory. Try playing a 4 string for years and then adding a B string! It was touch and go as I kept going back to my J bass. The neck felt like a toothpick after playing the 5 string. But, with practice the B string is not an issue as it once was.

I said muscle memory. I had a 6 string one time...absolutely loved that bass. But one thing for sure, I do not get attached that I can't get rid of it (except my '87, sentimental value). That 6 string - Ibby Soundgear - was built so perfect for me, a guy with small hands. I don't think the neck was a lot wider than a 4 string P. By the time I got the SR, I was out of P basses. So never measured it together. I got rid of it the same time I got rid of my Stu Hamm V1. For now, I'm set with the gear(s) I have ;)

So. This the biggest and most important gig of your life. Christina Aguleria is singing the national anthem to open....NOW what bass?

I own a Classic 70's jazz in addition to my American standard 5-string Precision. The neck on the 70's feels a bit thicker than regular Jazzes, so for a guy who likes Precision necks it really is quite nice.

I have both. My main basses are both P's, a 2010 MIA(maple) that plays like butter and a MIM burst that I upgraded with a tort. guard, CTS pots and a 62RI p-up. The MIM is my main giging bass and truth be known is the better sounding of the two. I also have an Am. Std Jazz that is a great instrument but I rarely play because I don't like the slimmer neck, so it is tuned down to Eb.
My latest is a MIM fretless Jazz that I picked up fairly cheap so I can swap out the neck for an Allparts maple P neck. Hopefully I can have the best of both worlds, the versatility of a Jazz and the comfort and playability(for me) of the Precision. All my basses are strung with flats(Chromes) and I love the way they play & feel.

I have two P basses, a 1982 Fullerton '57 reissue, and 2004 Standard. I also play a Deluxe Jazz bass. I usually take my Jazz when I play out......BUT I still love my P-basses.

I've had a P Bass since 1969 and have played them exclusively until 2002. I currently have a 62 that I've owned since 1977 and a 78 fretless that's a bit of a Frankenbass. I have a 1972 fretless Jazz and I just sold a 2010 50th Anniversary Jazz that I got on a trade and liked very much but I needed the money and it was an easy sell.

I also have a Suhr VJ4 and consider it a superior Fender even though it's a clone. I've owned 2 Modulus VJs and a Sadowsky VJ and they were all extremely nice basses but other than looks they weren't Fender-like at all. The Suhr feels and plays like a Fender and considering John Suhr's relationship with Fender it's easy to see why.

Just got one of the FSR Squier 3TSB Vintage modified Jazz basses. Excellent! Fantastic looking bass, decent player too, just put a BadassII on it, even better again, awaiting standard Jazz bass knobs for it, then it'll look the part, a lot of bass for not much bucks!
