I have played P Basses for most of my life. I have had an odd Gibson EB or Ampeg AEB now or then but always sold them. Now I found a very nice 1960's Custom see though blonde Jazz Bass. Bought it & I love it. I will always keep my P Basses but this Jazz is a keeper too. Any of you P players have a Jazz too?

I love the P! 8)
But I cannot put my Jazz down any more.
If I am gonna play less, then I grab the P for jams.
But if we're gonna get creative and experimental, it's the jazz I bring with me.
And the fact that I have Model J's in my jazz, wired in series. Neck pup solo'd really nails the P tone, and my jazz is alot lighter than my P.
But I still love the P.

my J is my go-to bass for gigs... but i'm starting to get into my active deluxe P a lot more lately... i love the slimmer J neck on it joined with the P body and pups.....

If a VM Modified counts, then I do too. It sits more than it's played. It got two days this week and will probably sit for another month. Actually there are things I like about it more than my Precision, sound and tone are better with the Precision.

It will be my back-up for whatever way I go, a new Precision is somewhere on the horizion.

Yeah...Dimarzio Model J's do a very good job of sounding very much like a P bass.

I actually just put a set of Dimarzio Area J on my 2010 Jazz because they sound very much like a single coil Jazz pickup...minus the hum.

As far as my P basses go, I have Original '62 pickups in each.

I saw your videos on the Model J/Quarter Pounder comparison. Good stuff.
I never quite liked the QP's in a P, the Original '62's are great but I have some Model P's in there now. I got to get them played in a band context. Every time I jam or practice with them, I grab the jazz. I like to max the neck, set the tone a little less than half, and use the bridge for "flavoring" my tone.

Currently I have two 2008-9 MIM P-Basses, an Ibanez GSR200 Custom as well as a 1984 Fender Power Jazz Bass Special. All depends on the type of gig we are doing and the acoustics of the venue as to which works out best. Each has slightly different characteristics and options, so it is just a matter of which gets the job done best wherever we are playing.

I play a 2010 American Standard 'P' and a Warwick Streamer LX. The Wick was my first bass and I've never liked it!

I'm itching to get a black/maple US Standard Jazz, now, to keep my 'P' company on cold winter nights..... :)

Plus, when I finally get that call from Charlie Pride and Glen Campbell, I'll be well equipped for every eventuality...... :)

Am Std P
57 Reissue P
Am P bass Deluxe 2009
Am Jazz S1 Switch
75 Reissue Jazz

teh only Jazz I can get my head around is my Am with the S1 Switch. Why Fender stopped teh S1 switch basses I will never know. it comes close (close but no cigar) to a P bass with the switch engaged. My band members swear by teh P bass sound. It is like a pair of comfortable shoes. I play primarily blues and the P bass is just the real deal. My problem is how to set my Am Delux P bass to play passive like the new ones. I just prefer the passive sound to the active sound. It is more organic.

Yeah, I canned the 1/4 lber shortly after the video...then went to a Model P. Not a bad pickup at all, but wanted something a little brighter for the punk band I'm currently in.

Have you heard/tried the Area J's yet. I absolutely love them...they're the first stacked pickups I've had that sound like a single coil pickups.

Have seen alot of good reviews and a few youtube vids of them, but nothing in person.
And there's a set for sale on TB.
Stop making me gas for something else.

I own both, and use either depending on my mood, the gig, the set list, etc.

I have an American Deluxe Jazz V. It was my only bass for a while. Growing up I had always wanted an American Deluxe Precision. The chance came up to own one. It was a 2007, in the chrome silver and a maple board. It was in mint condition and came with the new hardshell case rather than the molded ones. I got an insane deal on it and couldn't turn it down. I use it a lot for my University of Toledo jazz band. I play both my jazz and my precision, I think that the precision gets more play time though. I am a proud owner of both!
