Hi everyone. I have a 80-81 Fender Precision Special Deluxe that I bought out of the sam ash window back in 81. For the last twelve yrs I have had to access the active circut board and clean then pinch down the pots once a year. The problem has now gone to this will no longer work. The pot I have all the troble with is the secound or middle pot that is the 250k Tandom pot. No one knows exactly how this pot is to perform. Fender has sent me all the schematics they got but no info. The question after buying servel different tandom pot's with center detent is which is the right one? One tandom will work both pots in the tandom going the same way ie; both going to the 250k. Another tandom going in different directions from center detent. Another tandom going in + 250k while the other goes no wheres. The tandom that is on the circut board is so shot now I can't even get a ohm reading. The turning post doesn't go in & the board part of the tandom is cracked above the solder leads. I have called hundreds of repair shops and no one including Fender has any clue which one is right. This active circut was only used for one year during 80 & 81. It has servel transistors instead of a chip & the total gain + or - is 20 db's in eithier direction when circut is active. When not energized the control becomes the tone for both pick up's. I'm worried about blowing one of the transistors putting in the wrong pot with the trial and error meth. Then the board is garbage and none original guitar. Can't trace the xsistors eithier! Has anyone had to deal with this problem and knows the right tandom pot? I want to keep the bass original. Thanks in advance for all and any help, Jim
