A Vintage?
He would have bought a brand new one in 1962 wouldn't you think?

You might try and do a little searching here, we've had some discussions about Brian's Oly white P-bass, and whether it will ever be sold as a re-issue. It's near and dear to many people's heart. I don't remember the thread, but you should be able to find it. I remember one thread where the missing knob was discussed.

I can tell you that his first Precision Bass was one of the early ones(1952-53) with the one piece, black pick guard that went up the top horn of the body. He used it because it was cheap compared to a new Fender bass when the group started out.

His white one was probably a 1961 judging form the year that they made their first hit record. I don't know how this would be reissued as different from the standard 1962 reissue bass, but I guess Fender could make one to sell with only one knob on it and call it a Brian Wilson Model.

Bass Player interview by Karl Coryat http://www.bassplayer.com/article/brian-wilson/August-2007/860

In summary as it relates to this discussion, Brian didn't start playing until 1961 and stopped sometime in 1964 when he abandoned touring.

His first bass was a "WHITE FENDER PRECISION" but doesn't say what year model but his second generation P-Bass which eventually lost a pot was Olympic White with a white/black/white 3 ply guard. That actually might be the only bass he ever owned, but from this interview it is hard to be sure. He could have had a blonde first generation P-bass that he is calling white. In a biographical film I saw about the Beach Boys once Brian's character was seen very briefly at an early gig with a sunburst first generation bass then the white second generation one just showed up for the remainder of the film, so BC just might be right. But Mr. Wilson says the first bass he had was white, not sunburst as portrayed in the biopic.

When he stopped touring with the Beach Boys in 1964 he took up keyboard and has played keys exclusively ever since. That means he played bass for all of three to four years tops.
