Sadly today marks the 25th anniversary of the passing of one of the greatest and original of rock stars, one of the very first to bust some moves with the bass to, infact Philo was a top quality bass guitarist imho and my no.1 for sure.

Now isn't about time the great Fender people (hey Custom shop if needed) gave us a top notch Phillip Lynott sig P bass?

Respect

Andrew

Easier to make your own:

This was mine...I since put my maple neck back on the black bass. I love having a Lynott inspired bass but prefer my Oly White P bass with the RW neck.

I got the neck plate on Ebay, and the small headstock decal I had made for me. It's from a Christmas card that Jim Fitzpatrick (artist for most of Thin Lizzy's albums) made for his family.....I also have it tattooed on my back.

I Did indeed make my own, infact I combined a few features from Marcel Jacobs black p bass to, so I have a mirror scratch plate, Bad $@! 3 bridge, P and J pickups, black control knobs, a Jazz neck, all black and a rosewood finger board, hipshot goes on this week. A real loaded Hotrod!

Really love your decal, could you get me one?

Best regards.

You'll have to post some pictures of yours.

Sorry...I have one decal left in case I decide to add a mirror guard to my Black and maple fretboarded P bass.

Good to see you bro. Are you in CO or back home in the the UK (or was it Ireland?)?

I come around the Fender forums every once in awhile, but spend most of my time over on TB under the same name: RaginRog

Have gone back to Fenders...don't even own one Stingray. Do miss having one though.

Was wondering why you not been about on there .
Got back from CO on Friday to UK, Bert off E.B loaned me a Bongo 5HH for a month while i was there, very nice test drive want one !! but for the rest of the time i was there i was loaned a very nice Jazz with a P-J configuration & P neck on it !! man i want that bass !! bit of a contrast between the two basses but all good !
Brought some Texas specials for my Strat while i was out there so been looking for information on that on here (an fueling the GAS fire for a custom P-J while I'm here :P ) its all good !!
Nice collection you got going on in your sig !

Phil Lynott has two black P-Basses with a mirror pickguard: one with a rosewood fretboard, as shown on RaginRog's post and another one with a maple fretboard.

Image

I never saw Phil using an Ibanez Roadstar bass.

Image

I don't think it's a real Roadstar bass; it's merely a Roadstar neck fitted on a Fender body.

Phil used many several basses throughout his carreer such as this Rickenbacker 4001:

He must have added a Jazz pickup to his maple fretboard P bass. I think this is the only one his mother has left. I think the RW neck one is "missing."

Phil added a Jazz pickup in the bridge position but left the top-mounted jack intact and drilled an extra hole for the neck pickup volume knob.

Your interpretation of Phil's maple neck P-Bass has a side-mounted jack as opposed to the original, which still uses a top-mounted output socket.

Hey that is a very cool decal! I remember driving an hour & a half to a mom & pop music shop listening to Thin Lizzy Jail Break & a Live Cd the whole way. I was going to check out a 1966 Candy Apple Red P-Bass. I had $2000 in my pocket (this was in 1996) & this was the going rate for this vintage. The guy wanted $3000 & wouldn't budge. I didn't have the cash but it may have been high back then but the thing was ALL ORIGINAL & NEAR MINT. I checked back a month later & it was gone, of course. I can't listen to either of those Lizzy Cds without thinking of that nice summer ride & what I should have work a layway deal that I was offered.
