A beard can make you feel older or like a pirate.

I like my Sting. It sounds okay. Not as good as my P's or J's but it works. That's all I know.

Replace it with a better-looking replacement or remove it.

A few years ago the CS had built a Sting Relic P-Bass which was essentially a faithful replication of the battered old original.

So Leo Fender wound the pickup on Sting's bass himself! Really!

As busy as Fender (the company) was even in 1954, I seriously doubt any claims that Leo worked on or wound pickups for any non-prototype instruments.

It just didn't happen. They were making too many instruments, even basses in 1954 for Leo to have the time or inclination to work on a production line instrument. That is what he hired all of those other factory workers to do, and most of them were very good at it! :!:

I like Brother Dave's pick guard. Its tortoise and covers half of the bass, just like all original Precisions.

I have always been very careful of not using my Sting bass's pickup as a finger rest after reading Dave's accounts of coverless pickup disasters with the old style P-bass pickups.

Fortunately there's only one I know of like that. Mine.

Welcome.

Did you have pictures of your bass to post?

It is being redone as of now. The guy keeps me updated via FB. It is f'ing pretty so far. The 3 color sunburst beats the 2 color though ash has prettier grain than the odd grained scrap alder/polar boards they were slapping together for bodies. I bet they were pumping them out because even Sears used to sell them in their catalogs.
I've always thought the best thing about a Fender guitar/bass is the neck. You can't really copy or top it. I have a $$$ Warmoth Fender licensed P neck and it is getting to be a bit chunky compared to some others. I am not so fond of J necks as of yet but I want to slap a real one on it. I might be converted.

It looks 50 times better than the white or black ones but I prefer mine without any.
